What Crime/Mystery/Thriller book are you reading?

I've just started Jeffery Deaver's "The Broken Window" and I have to say that so far it is up to his usual high standard. I've liked each one more than the last and so am looking forward to seeing where this one takes me. The fact that he does eight months research before writing the book is good and I always feel like I've learned something when I'm finished reading.

Harlan Coben is by far my favorite myster/thriller writer. I just finished his latest ("Hold Tight"), which was up to his usual standards. "Tell No One" would be a great novel of his to start with. I've read Patterson, White, Kellerman, Deavers, Connely, and many others, and Coben is by far my favorite. They are popcorn novels, but damn if they aren't books that can't be put down.

I picked up "Term Limits" by Vince Flynn about a week ago completely blind. This is my first time reading any of his books, but a friend of mine really liked his style so I thought I'd give him a try. I have to say that so far, I'm enjoying every minute of this book, So much action and suspense! I can't put it down.

I'm reading Lisa Gardner's "Gone". Just started it so I haven't formed an opinion as yet.

Last week I read Deaver's "Garden of Beasts" and Kathy Reichs' "Bare Bones". Both great reads - especially Deaver's, with it's backdrop of the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.

I have just finished reading "Voices" by Arnaldur Indridason.

Arnaldur is an Icelandic author who sets his murder mysteries in that country. "Voices" is the third book in the series that feature Inspector Erlundur Sveinsson.

I have read the other two books in this series "Jar City" (also known as "Tainted Blood") and "Silence of the Grave".

A fourth book, "The Draining Lake" is being released next month. I can't wait to get it, I already have it on order.

Somehow I don't think that Iceland actually has a high a murder rate as these books seem to suggest.

The only book I'm reading at the moment is The Kobayashi Maru (ST:ENT).

In its own way, I guess it *is* a crime/mystery/thriller. ;)

I love Lee Child's books. I've read them all and wait eagerly for the next one Nothing To Lose.

I've discovered Child and his creation Jack Reacher quite recently and have read most of the books, though out of order. Am currently reading Killing Floor, which is the first. Great stuff. Apparently he's sold the film rights but I'm having difficulty thinking of an actor who could play Reacher and match his description as per the books. Maybe a younger Adam Baldwin - anyone got a time machine?

My other great recent discovery-cum-addiction is Stephen Hunter. He's written a lot of novels featuring the character of Bob Lee Swagger, a master marksman. Others are period pieces (1940s and 1950s) and deal with his father, Earl Swagger. One of the books, Point of Impact, was filmed as Shooter, with Mark Wahlberg, but was upated from the 1970s to the modern day. I'd really love to see them filmed in order and keeping the chronological order and time setting of the novels. For me, Nathan Fillion would make a great Earl, while i picture Bob Lee as a younger Kevin Bacon (sorry Marky Mark).

Most recent one I read is Pale Horse Coming, which is Earl-centric. Highly recommended, as always.

I am presently reading CSI NY Deluge by Stuart Kaminsky. I am enjoying it. I love Deavers books and quite enjoy Flynns. I just finished a book by Sandra Brown but for the life of me cannot remember the name. I also just finished Strangers in Death by JD Robb(Nora Roberts)

^How's Deluge? I recently finished the most recent CSI: NY novel, Four Walls by Keith R.A. DeCandido and really enjoyed it. CSI: NY is my favorite of the CSIs.

I actually just finished up a thriller last night--Heartsick by Chelsea Cain. It just came out in paperback--it's about this detective who was abducted by a serial killer. She ended up letting him go after torturing him for ten days and turned herself in. Now it's two years later and he's been called in to head a task force hunting for another serial killer. It's a decent thriller with a cool twist at the end. The sequel comes out next week so I'll probably read that as well.

I used to read Patterson, Reichs and Cornwell, but to be honest I think that they have lost their edge, the novels just don't seem to hold my attention anymore.

Another author who I think is really good is Robert Ludlum. I own all the books, including those written/polished by other authors after his death. The sixth book in the Jason Bourne series (and the third by Eric Van Lustbader - The Bourne Legacy, the Bourne Betrayal) "The Bourne Sanction" will be the next read after Deaver's "The Broken Window."

Not bad. It is my first time reading one of the CSI novels. I bought it because I was picking up Krad's book.

I just started reading The Wheelman by Duane Swierczynski.

The last one I read was Falling Angel by William Hjortsberg, which was the basis for the movie Angel Heart.

I have a bunch lined up to read next. Probably Die A Little by Megan Abbott.

I just finished up reading Hammet's "The Glass Key." Might head onto "In the Name of the Rose"...or perhaps something by Ellroy...I have "Hollywood Nocturnes" and "Black Dahlia" on my shelf unread.

I read all of Sue Grafton's books and all of Jonathan Kellerman's books. I like the characters of Kinsey Malone (Grafton's heroine) and Alex Delaware (Kellerman's hero) and whenever a new book comes out I feel like I'm visiting an old friend.

Right now I'm reading Kellerman's Obsession. It's pretty good so far.

I also read alot of David Morell's books - love his spy novels. Although I've not read one in several years. Gotta get on that!

I used to read Patricia Cornwell's books as well, but she starting putting too much of her own personal soapbox issues into her stories, and I got annoyed with that and quit reading her books. I won't read authors who use their fictional writing as a way to proselytize for their pet issues. I read for fun - not to be preached at.

I've just finished The Julius House by Charlaine Harris. It's the fourth book in this series, about a mystery-solving librarian. She's pretty much made of awesome (the author and the main character).

No Certain Rest by Jim Lehrer

It tells the story of the corpse of an unknown Union officer burried in an unmarked grave on the Antietum battlefield.

I enjoyed that a lot. Have you ever tried Stuart Woods? He has an ongoing character named Stone Barrington. Another is Holly something or other (can't remember the last name right now?)

I thought Heartsick was reasonably good, but I thought that the relationship between the female serial killer and the cop was a mixture of the relationships between Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham and Clarice Starling. I didn't think she was quite as interesting or unique a character as the blurb promised.

I'll still probably read the sequel, though.
