What classic album would make a decent film?

Star Treks

Many of us remember the days of Rock Operas and the films that were based on them... Tommy, The Wall, and so forth. Sometimes these movies were good, sometimes... not so much (ahem, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, cough cough).

The days of movies being based on albums seem to be long gone. But here's a fun little question: assuming a decent effort and talented people involved, what album (in any genre) do you still think might have been the basis for a really good movie?

As for me, my favorite album of all time is Genesis's The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, which was actually set to be made into a movie before things fell through. I would love to see that!

I always thought Styx Paradise Theater would make a good stage show. Not sure about a film though.

I've considered Lamb a few times, but the story really doesn't go anywhere. Some great musicianship, but Gabriel's lyrics were sometimes "wanting" as far as extending a narrative plot. Perhaps something based on "Days of Future Passed" by the Moodies would work...it has a bookend and something of a narrative. It wouldn't be a "rock opera" (not enough material) but as a musical with a dialogue book it could be fleshed out nicely.

I might be interested in seeing "Chess" brought to the big screen, but you'd have to have the right director for it.

The Downward Spiral - NIN
Portrait of an American Family - Marilyn Manson

Of course, they would have to made by really off the wall wacky directors.

S.O.D. - Speak English Or Die

I'd love to see how the public reacts to a film based on Sergeant D. Hell, I'd direct it myself.

Hellbilly Deluxe, 13 Tales of Cadaverous Cavorting Inside The Spookshow International by Rob Zombie could be the best episodic genre show since The Twilight Zone.

David Bowie-Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. It begs for cinema. Rush 2112. Springsteen's The River.

Hell, I'm ready to invest in its production.

On more serious note - any of King Diamond's albums would make a good horror movie.

Smell the Glove by Spinal Tap. Though seriously they should give Sgt Pepper another go round. Maybe even set it in Britan and have dialog.

I started writing a script for Operation: Mindcrime once
A friend of mine wanted to write a screenplay for Mindcrime. We always cranked that album back in the day, while out at sea. I had caught up with him a couple of years ago when he made that proposal. It would make a great movie, but no way in hell could I write a script.

NIN, "Year Zero" would be a post-apocalyptic thriller
Green Day, "American Idiot" could be an angsty Gen X drama/comedy
NWA, "Straight Outa Compton" would be a gritty urban gang shoot-em-up
