What Changes Would You Have For "Is There In Truth No Beauty?"

Not exactly the best episode of the series or Season 3, which might have been asking for too much.

I never understood the void in this episode, but I wonder how CBS Digital will go about it.

One of my absolute favorites, actually. Great character episode. The only thing I can imagine needing changes, other than the standard establishing shots, would be that void since its just a redo of the galactic barrier. I never really understood the void either, but I guess that was the point. The Medusans did. :D

Yes, the extragalactic void must be something different and memorable.

The shots of the Enterprise streaking out of control at high warp should also be special.

One other thing: I never understood why the Enterprise emerges from the barrier when they get back. Chekov said "Bull's Eye!" But there's no indication the Enterprise is anywhere near the galaxy's edge at the start of their wild ride. I think the Enterprise should emerge out of a wormhole or conduit or something.

Genuine gem of an episode. The first-time screenwriter, a librarian, gave it a nice literary polish with the gratuituous Byron namedropping, and the classically named 'Medusan' creature. Also we've got the future Dr. Pulaski Diana Muldaur back in her second TOS role (though both are good).

In addition to the void, maybe that lightshow they used with the Medusan might be touched up, but that's about it.

Agreed, a nearly perfect episode to me, although Spock would look cool in Armani sunglasses instead of the visor. It would make him hipper than Bono.

I absolutely love this episode. It's so ... sixties!
Who's to say that Kollos is too ugly to look at - or too beautiful?

It's got one of my favorite scores of the series too. Deautiful music.
And for all those folks that thing Muldaur was just a cranky old doctor, you get to see her at her most beautiful.

It's worse:

I'd like to see a revamped void effect and new ship shots, of course. But most of all, I'd like to see them fix a huge editorial gaffe. At the end of the episode, when the Medusan and Miranda beam down, Kirk remains in the transporter room (previously, it was esablished that no human can be in the transporter room while the Medusan beams in) and only leaves after they've beamed down. I watched it again last night (in the non-remastered version) and it took me right out of the story.

My wee little Trekkie brain just came up with an excuse: Kirk was smitten with Miranda, and he never took his eyes off her during the transport. He simply wasn't looking at Kollos, do, no problem.

My wee little brain always assumed that the crew of the Enterprise wasn't even aware that Kollos would be transported in a box and that is why the corridors were cleared when he came aboard. Once that procedure was established the previous paranoia was no longer a concern. Spock's putting on of the visor was more... ceremonial. Or for his own personal reasons. Something has always told me he was being uncharacteristically sentimental right then.

I'll just never understand the utter hatred people have for Hillary Clinton. :(

Having just got done watching the episode, I realized how much I had forgotten about this episode, which I had not seen in five years. I had forgotten how much of a great episode it was. All the dramatic surprises tricked me again. It was actually a wonderful classic episode. The new music reminded me why TOS defeated all the other modern spin-off shows in that department. Were any of the season three soundtracks ever released on CD? I especially loved the music used during the final closing moments of the episode with the Enterprise flying off into space, which corresponded perfectly with what the fine folks at CBS Digital gave us. But more on that later.

As for the new special effects, the void was made much more pleasantly mysterious and eerie with dark, vibrant, pulsating streaks of blue and green. I actually prefer this to the original psychedelic rainbow void which was laced with footage of the galactic barrier. The final closing space shots were captivatingly beautiful with a bright sun just below the bottom screen horizon, splashing up against the ship. The way it lit the Enterprise reminded me of the TOS Movies and how they would use source lighting on the refit ship. And speaking of ships....we finally get a new official never-before-seen TOS era Federation Starfleet ship! The 23rd century successor to the old Daedalus class. It was small, so when this ship came really close to the Enterprise, it made the Constitution class starship seem majestically enormous. If all the Federation ships of the time were represented on a chess board, this new ship would undoubtedly be one of many pawns.

Sounds cool, can't wait to see a screenshot of that new ship (and work it into Memory Alpha).
So, was the Medusan homeworld completely removed from that shot, and we just see the ship and the Medusan sun or is the planet also seen somewhere in the background?
