What are your top 5 songs of 2011

Destructor

I was just voting in the Triple J hottest 100 and, as usual, I felt a bit sad about how little new music I'd consumed this year, so I thought I'd do a whip around the ol' TrekBBS and see what you guys had been listening to. The rules are you can't vote for the same band twice. It may well be that all top five of our favourite songs are by the same artist, but pick the BEST of those songs to represent that artist and then move to the next slot. Remember, it's only songs released or popularized in 2011.

My top five picks were:

1. Gotye - Somebody that I used to know
2. Radiohead - Codex
3. Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO
4. Try to sleep - Low
5. No Light No Light - Florence and the Machine

These were the songs I voted for this year in the Hottest 100:-

Ball Park Music - Rich People Are Stupid
The Black Keys - Lonely Boy
Boy & Bear - Golden Jubilee
Foster The People - Houdini
Jim Ward - Broken Songs {Electric Version}
The Living End - Away From The City
Matt Corby - "Brother"
Radiohead - "Morning Mr Magpie"
Sparkadia - "Mary"
The Strokes - "Under Cover Of Darkness"

Probably Golden Jubilee would be my favourite song this year, but when the countdown happens, not sure what I'll be doing.

La Chica Vampira - Papa Topo
Love is Blindness - Jack White
Half Moon St. - Pete and the Pirates
Shake it out - Florence & the machine
Oliver Boy - Flogging Molly

Been a fairly good year for pop music, if not as good as the last couple. I do have a top 250 of this year already, so I'll post the top 5 of that. The top 5 is rather mainstream, a lot of the more obscure songs I've been liking didn't make it that high.

1. David Guetta ft. Sia - Titanium
2. Alexis Jordan - Hush Hush
3. The Wombats - Jump Into The Fog
4. Sean Paul (ft. Alexis Jordan) - Got 2 Luv U (does that count with the not having singers/bands twice rule? it's only a feature, if not, I'll just put #6 below)
5. Rihanna - California King Bed
(6. Nicole Scherzinger - Don't Hold Your Breath)

Commenting on what's been mentioned already here: Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know is a great song, and I've known about it for a while, but it's only really getting popular in the UK now, and same with my love for it (because the same is happening to Titanium now, but I've loved that ever since it came out), so I'm saving that one for 2012. Also Florence and The Machine is superb, and she's really surprised me this year with this album, as I wasn't too keen on the last one.

In no particulair order:
Gotye - Somebody that I used to know
Raccoon - No Mercy
James Morrison - Slave To The Music
Foo Fighters - Rope
Brooke Fraser - Something In The Water

I feel I could list the entire Foo Fighters album. I also can't remember if some of these songs were technically 2010. Anyway, here goes:

1. Walk - Foo Fighters
2. Rolling in the Deep - Adele
3. Pumped up Kicks - Foster the People
4. Lonely Boy - The Black Keys
5. Satellite - Rise Against

Honorable Mentions:
Long Time - Cake
Around My Head - Cage the Elephant
The rest of the Foo Fighters album ;)

Computer Magic - "Grand Junction"
Phantogram - "When I'm Small"
Irish Steph - "Crush" (Noisy Freaks remix)
Duck Sauce - "Big Bad Wolf" (the video for this is totally NSFW, be warned)
DyE - "Fantasy"

Eminem - Go to sleep.
Emalkay - When I look at you.
Roy - Ya'll must've forgot.
Eminem - Till I collapse.
The underdog project - Summer jam.
