What are those turbolift exteriors supposed to be?

It might look epic but how would it tie to the "reality" of the ship?
It doesn't. That's the point. It's the equivalent of a big musical cue that has no impact in universe.
But who was thinking "I want to see this mostly empty space in the middle of the ship with all kinds of things flying around because I bet that's totally what it looks like in there"?
That wasn't the question.

That vista-like view is looking forward at the deflector? Mind blown. (Where did that come from?)
It's from this document: https://assets.adg.org/media/submis..._ep101_ADG_Awards_Submission_20221017_v01.pdf

My mind was blown too, for some reason, probably because of the things lining the sides of the room resemble the TOS pipe cathedral, I had decided that way faced aft (although, there's a directorial movement argument that the pipe cathedral also faces forward). What's funny is I asked my kids what they thought the round thing at the end of the room was and they both said, "that's obviously the back side of the dish thingie on the front, duh."

I'm also not sure why they needed to cheat the scale, it seems to still work even if it's moved aft a bit.

Well the sets are almost all ridiculously huge. The only reason they get away with it is because they're all gorgeous. They're believable in their own way. Unlike, say, the S.S. Budweiser.

But now I can do HOMEWORK!

Doesn't look like the same thing to me. I think that's meant to be the part of engineering we saw in the short trek.

I don't think that looks anything like the roller coaster system. For one thing there isn't nearly enough open space. It looks like a lot more engineering area. And going by "rule of cool" it actually DOES look cool.
A huge open space with pipes crisscrossing? Looks identical to me, except the floodlights are off in Short Treks so you just see the blue neon stuff.

We might be talking about different things. I'll leave it to someone else to dig up the appropriate screen shots for comparison.

Those pics from SNW of "Upper Engineering" follow along with the camera shot that introduces us to the SNW engineering set. It's right after the Enterprise leaves space dock in the first episode and there is a shot that descends along the vertical shaft and ends in engineering.

Nothing like the VAST and EMPTY open space that we see in Disco and Short Treks. As big as the SNW engineering is, it's tiny by comparison to whatever that space in Disco is.

Boy, I wish there was a higher res edition of that ADG booklet available.
