What are the guidelines for UFO topics?

Are UFOs still a taboo topic over here? Will future threads be closed or banished to MISC?

When it comes to UFOs or aliens, what exactly may we discuss here without fear of censorship by the moderator?

The subject of UFOs can be broken down into a number of subtopics:

Recent sightings
Evidence other than photos and tapes
UFO history
UFO crashes
Government cover-ups
Abduction cases
Recommended books about UFOs
Skeptics and debunkers
Treatment of UFOs by news media
TV documentaries and other programs

... and that's just a few. This subject is very broad, and I'm not sure it would be easy to discuss A, B and C but not D, E and F, so to speak. And it would be inconvenient if we had to check in with the moderator to get clearances for certain lines of questioning or discussion.

I can't make a blanket assessment on that. Nor do I believe I should. If the subject can remain in the realms of science and technology, treating the varying points of view with the same respect as you'd want your point of view treated (e.g., avoiding such commentary as talking about someone's tinfoil hat), and if people can actually not go ballistic when asked to provide some evidence backing their claims/assertions, then I don't see any reason the subjects can't be in here. Same general approach as any thread, to be honest.

However, if the thread drifts into something that might be better suited to Misc, then yeah, it might get moved. I can't make a judgment on the kinds of things that would get a thread moved without observing the evolution of the thread, unfortunately.
