Re: What 3 films do you consider to currently be the most inspiring to
Heh. I knew there was a reason I liked you!
These are three of my all time favorite 'modern' movies ever made. Stick Amadeus, Sense & Sensibility, The Bridges of Madison County, and The Remains of the Day in there and you have my top 7 modern dramas.
I have watched all of these about a bazillion times.
That said, I think the most inspiring of the lot for me is, by far, Out of Africa.
I love to travel and adventure, as you know...and this movie has always been an inspiration to me as a woman who travels the world - most of the time, alone.
Karen Blixen was tough and independent, yet never lost her vulnerability nor her dignity. I liked that about her. She blazed a trail that few women would or could follow, experienced tremendous hardship and great loss...but she also had a wonderful and unique experience along the way.
She is actually one of my biggest movie (and real life) heroines.
There is certainly a price to pay for living that kind of life - there is tremendous risk...and sometimes outright fear. And there is always the distinct possibility that you will become a very misunderstood individual, because most cannot fathom the sort of life you lead, and are uncomfortable with it because it is so unconventional....and at the end of the day, very few people out there have the guts to really push the envelope and LIVE outside the box and move away from convention.
However, there are also tremendous rewards for just DOING it. Going out there and doing something challenging - like going alone to live in a world that is VERY different from your own....and making a go of it. And Karen did that! She had alot of bumps and hardships along the way...but she really LIVED.
And the 'reward' she received through that incredible experience I'm sure was worth everything she suffered.
This film, therefore, is by far my most inspirational 'modern' movie.
In fact, I struggle to even pick a second and third choice. The rest of the movies above are wonderful...and those and some of my other favorites are good films....but for personal inspiration, there is no movie on earth that is as good as Out of Africa to me.
The English Patient: that romance and beauty can be found in the most unlikely situations.
Dances with Wolves: the wonder of nature and living in harmony with it.
Out of Africa: female strength, fearlessness, and sense of adventure.
