http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/news/bulletin_101112_03/Title_of_Christmas_Special_Revealed A Christmas Carol. Seriously though, Jesus wept. Fuck's sake. Etc.
That's been rumoured for ages. And why bother with the negativity? RTD is gone, you know, so the series is no longer automatically rubbish.
I'm negative because they've called the Christmas special A [fucking] Christmas Carol. I mean, what are they thinking? That's like naming The Brain of Morbius Frankenstein.
No. It's lazy, unoriginal, and trading off the goodwill of a well liked classic. That's not to say the story itself can't be good - I very much hope it will be - but I'm very disappointed anyone thought this was a good idea for a title.
Yeah I have to say I agree with Bones a bit here. I much prefer "Father Who?" which was I believe the original title or at least a proposed title for the special. I like the play on words in it.
Could be to do with the Spoiler: story plot story being based on the Christmas Carol? . Fuck, shit, wank etc.
...are you joking? Did my Brain of Morbius line go straight over your head? When you base something on another story, it's good form not to use the exact same name.
That would be an x-mas present I can get behind. With a title this bad, the episode can only be uber-brilliant. So much so even you are gonna love it!
Next year's specials: Easter - The Greatest Story Ever Told Christmas - It's A Wonderful Life Halloween - It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
Can't say I'm much impressed with the title, either. Still, looking forward to the episode a great deal!
Ooh, while we're at it, I've heard another spoiler about series 6. Spoiler: Series 6 Next series they're doing a story that's a clever twist on Star Wars. It's called "Star Wars".
Is it a great title? No. Is it worth getting your knickers in a twist over, no. It's a tv show, there are far more terrible things going on in the world to get angry about. Anyway, this is Moffat so it wouldn't surprise me if the title is a play on words, or that there is some additional significance.
Well like someone upstream said, maybe a major character's name is Carol so it works on another level than just being named after Dickens.
