I love this movie...and am even happier about its performance. Still in the Top 12 after a little over two months? By this point in 1998 and 2002 both INS and NEM had plummeted out of the Top 30 or 40.

Yeah, Nemesis was #43 on its 10th weekend (the 4-day President's Day weekend), and earned an awe-inspiring $96,618 4-day gross from 211 theatres. It looks like it entered second-run theatres that weekend too since it was only in 110 theatres the week before.

Nice to see that Trek is still hanging in there. Looks like Bruno had a solid opening; I don't have much interest in it, but good for Mr. Cohen and the filmmakers.

Guess I'll post my "Best of 2009 Worldwide" list now... seems like the thing to do. ;) It includes the Friday estimates, but some of the foreign numbers are a bit behind -- I'll adjust the list accordingly once I have more up-to-date international figures.

^It'll be interesting to see if Wolverine eventually passes Trek. It hasn't opened in Japan yet (and doesn't until the end of September). The previous X-Men films starting with the first film made $17 million, $15 million, and $13 million, respectively.

^^^
Well, if that trend continues, it won't pass Trek (crosses fingers). :p But I don't know... it may actually have a good chance. Either way, it'll probably be close.

The Hangover will probably pass Trek eventually. Even a couple of new comedies didn't slow it down much.

I agree. It's still performing a decent amount ahead of Wedding Crashers day-to-day and that film made $37 million more from this point. So, The Hangover could end up with $260 million.

Looks like a cool million is a lock for the weekend. Eat it Year One...!

Pelham and Night, you're next!

:D

Updated the first post with weekend estimates.

Star Trek made about $1.1 million, dropping 36.2% from last weekend.

Likewise, I updated my list of the top-grossing films of 2009 worldwide to include the weekend estimates.

Well, it looks like we're not out of the race just yet, although with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opening on Wednesday, Trek will probably take another hit at the box office -- but at this point, what does it really matter, eh? ;)

True... but on the other hand, the second-tier theaters will keep Trek around for a while...

And my IMAX has extended Trek's run for another week--people who can't get into Harry Potter sell-outs at night will perhaps opt to view Trek at 8 p.m.

But the million dollar weekends have probably run their course.

I can't believe how well "The Hangover" is doing. It looks like it is going to pass "Star Trek"

If "The Hangover" passes ST the film will have no chance of being in the top five at the domestic box office this year.

Yeah, I think it is 100% sure to pass Trek, especially after this weekend's 12% drop, even against the opening of two new comedies. I'd put its final total at $262 million.

Trek will probably end up #7 or #8 for the year, which is still great.

Not sure what to make of it, but I thought this was an interesting comparison after T2's opening.

Weekend 2 for T2 = $42.3 million (4th of July weekend).
Weekend 2 for ST09 = $43.0 million.

Weekend 3 for T2 = $24.2 million (est.)
Weekend 3 for ST09 = $22.9 million (not including Memorial Day take).

T2 has made more on comparable weekdays after the first weekend, though.

Good hold this late in the run. Comparing the per screen averages with last weekend, it looks like Trek's drop this week is due more to the loss of screens than anything else.

I saw Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on Saturday at one of the dozen or more screens it's playing on in my area. Aside from my wife and myself, only 6 other people were there for the 1:00 pm showing. I couldn't help but think they could have done with Transformers in one less theater in order to keep Star Trek playing.

TREK XI might as well be TITANIC comparatively speaking considering how most of the other movies in the franchise have tended to do...especially 2+ months in.
