We lost our cat Charlie Boy today

Just posting to get my thoughts out.

He was 10 and sadly had Kidney failure. Two days ago he was fine.

He was the best cat, he would sleep leaning on me in bed purring like a diesel engine.

He will be missed by his sister Lilly but we will get her a kitten to keep her company.

I'm sorry, Infern0 How old is Lilly? If she's already elderly it might not be a good idea to get her a kitten for company. Old animals, like old people, prefer peace and quiet. Dealing with a young and active partner might be too much for her.
How about taking her to a shelter and see if she makes friends with one of the cats there? Letting her pick her new partner herself, I mean. Shelters usually have cats of all ages and temperaments so that a fitting one should be among them.

She is 10 so not old but not young either (we have had cats live over 15 before)

We decided to just keep her alone but she does look around for Charlie at mealtimes which is sad
