Wasteland 2: A Kickstarter project

Brian Fargo (Yup that Brian Fargo, created Wasteland, Fallout etc etc), is trying to create a Wasteland 2 using Kick Starter:

Wasteland 2 is the direct sequel to the first ever post-apocalyptic computer RPG. The original Wasteland was the inspiration for the FALLOUT series of games, and the first RPG to allow players to split parties for tactical considerations, to face players with moral choices, and to make them deal with the consequences of their actions. It was the first to provide far more than the one-key-for-one-lock style of puzzle solving. It was groundbreaking, which is why IGN named it one of the top 25 PC games of all time, Computer Gaming World named it the Adventure Game of the year in 1988, and it was short-listed for inclusion in the Smithsonian Institution’s current “Art of the Computer Game” exhibition.

It has already raised almost 150k in the last few hours. a 15$ donation gets you a digital copy of the game.

743K. I hope it meets the 1.5 million end game goal:
To do this game right, we need to raise $1 million, but you'll notice our funding request is $900,000 and that is because Brian Fargo has offered to fund the last $100,000 if need be. That’s a lot of money needed, but not when compared with the budgets of most full scale RPGs made today. The original game sold over 100,000 copies—on the Apple ][ and Commodore 64 platforms back in the day. If everyone who played it then backs the project at the most basic level, the game is on.

But we’re looking ahead to what we can do if you all back this project in force. At $1.25 million, the money will go primarily into making the world bigger, adding more maps, more divergent stories and even more music.

At $1.5 million, the world gets even bigger. You’ll have more adventures to play, more challenges to deal with, and a greater level of complexity to the entire storyline. We’ll add more environments, story elements, and characters to make the rich world come alive even more. We will even be able to bring Wasteland 2 to OS X for Mac lovers. And after $1.5 million the sky is the limit.

“@BrianFargo: #Linux users. We've heard your requests, and will include a Linux version (in addition to more content) at $1.5 million in pledges.”

I'm just trying to figure out what tier to donate, probably the one that gets you the boxed copy. Though the fifteen dollars seems like quite a deal.

955k :D. I did the 15$, but you have until the end of the kickstarter to decide what tier you want to be at. I think I might go up to 50$ tier because I love to have maps/boxes, and the sound track is going to be great.

Yeah, I'm also debating tier. I normally wouldn't drop $50 or $60 for a game, but for a high-quality indie title? You bet!

More hyped for this than I was for Mass Effect or really anything else. The top down turn-based tactical style is just a niche that isn't being filled. I loved Fallout 3, the humor, the world, it was all very good... but the VATS was just kind of like a cheat button almost, as entertaining as some of the animations were, and aside from that the gameplay was first-person shooter. Mass Effect is the same thing. I love FPS gameplay, I don't know if I love it in RPGs.

When I read the stuff on the kickstarter about not catering to mass market sensibilities, it puts a smile on my face.

I'm a bit confused about the T-shirt. So now there are two 150 dollar tiers? Do you get them both at 150? Do you have to pick between the shirt and the extra boxed copy and all that when you go for 150? I'm kind of eyeing the $150 tier, but not if it's one or the other.

I mean I'm all for donating to the cause, but they can only stretch out trinkets that cost them 2 dollars to produce so far :)

You have to pick which 150$ reward you want. The T-shirt option is a new option. Some people wanted a t-shirt option, looks like its been fairly popular (Either new donations, upgrade donations, or people going from one 150 option to the other option.
