Wasn't SG-1 really a 5 man team?

ReadyAndWilling

Fleet Captain
Hey guys, does anyone else think Teal'C's symbiote was apart of the team as much as Teal'C, O'Neill, Daniel and Sam?

The symbiote makes Teal'C bigger, stronger and helps him to recover much faster. We saw how weak Teal'C became when he permanently lost his symbiote and switched to the drug. He became weaker physically and mentally. I mean, I thought Teal'C might go insane in those couple episodes.

It would have made sense if they had some kind of funeral or, at least a memorial service for the symbiote as it did carry Teal'C for so many years.

What if the thing had eventually matured and taken, oh I don't know, Siler as host, and then went on a psychotic killing spree? However, to be fair to Siler, the Tok'ra show up and are able to extract the symbiote saving his life, but killing the symbiote.

Would we still think of the symbiote as part of the team? Would we still be required to mourn its loss and have a memorial or funeral?

The symbiote cannot think for itself, making it more like Teal'c's liver than the Trek Trill symbiotes.

No, it could. In the first episode with Tanith, Teal'c meditated to speak with Junior, and found that Junior knew who he was, had witnesses his father's murder, and hated his guts.

Which is probably a good reason Junior shouldn't be part of the team.

What about the time in one of the earlier episodes when Teal'C was thrown into a pool of water and had his arms and legs tied? The symbiote was breathing for him and therefore, saved his life.

^^Because if Teal'c died the symbiote itself would have died. Juniour was only looking out for himself, don't confuse self-preservation with concern for others.

Hell, why not make Apophis an honorary member since without him they'd have had nothing to do?

And didn't SG-1 become a five...err...person team in last few seasons anyway?

Wow I miss that show.

I disagree that Teal'c became weaker when he switched over to the drug, Tritonin. In fact, there was a whole episode about it, with the women Jaffa, that they went on to prove that it didn't make you weaker. Teal'c still has symbiote like benefits, without having his symbiote.

Untrue, it very much can think for itself. It just has little power until it takes over a host. It very much has a mind of its own though.

Actually, if you really want to get anal and lump everyone who was ever on the team all together, than SG-1 is a five man team since there have been a total of five males assigned to the team at one point, O'Neill, Daniel, Teal'c, Jonas and Mitchell.

I remember that episode and he became mentally unstable.

The symbiote give the jaffa strength. They heal faster, resist diseases, resist any kind of illness and are a source of general well-being.

It'd be like having a second ball sack.

If we are truly going to be anal about it, SG-1 is a six man team, since Colonel Makepeace had official command of the unit for an episode back in season 3.

I think you are remember the wrong episode, I'm referring to is from Season 7, episode 10 "Birthright"

He does not become mentally unstable.

My point is, I think that the enhanced strength, heal faster and resist diseases benefits also is realized through Tritonin, it is afteral ground up Goa'uld. There has been NO evidence that using Tritonin has made Teal'c weaker, or heal slower, or not resistant to diseases anymore. NO evidence whatsoever to backup your claim.

Apparently, I did not remember all of the facts about the symbiotes. I just remember them described as larval Goa'uld, which does not connote intelligence in my mind.

They grow and mature, that is the whole nature of why they are in the Jaffa, to make them more compatible for taking over human type hosts. We also learned they have inherited memory from the Queen Goa'uld, so when they mature they know everything. Tealc's was quite matured.

I meant anyone who was on the team for more than one episode. Thereby eliminating Colonel Makepeace, Dr. Rothman, that alien posing as a team member, and that guy who filled in as Daniel's potential replacement in the S6 premiere.
