washer-dryer combo UPDATE

Those of you who followed this thread http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=130777 know I was looking to buy an LG washer-dryer combo. Well, I did, and it was installed today!

I did my first load -- a bunch of towels, since they and jeans are the heaviest things I wash. I wanted to see what the worst possible scenario was for how long it would take... A little more than three hours total, mostly drying, of course.

Holdfast, I'm glad you warned me that they'd come out of the machine feeling kind of humid, or it would've worried me. They were fine within five minutes. Nice warm, dry, perfect towels.

Much to my surprise, neither cat was interested in watching.

How energy efficient your choice of washer-dryer?

I don't need a dryer myself because it is quite easy to dry clothes outside here.

O Holy Night, does the dryer not have a proper exhaust vent? Shouldn't take more than half that long, even for towels.

No dingoes in Tasmania but it has been known for Tasmanian Devils to steal washing and use it to line their dens.

Quite. The washer function uses less water than average for a front loader, which is already much less than a top loader. Drying is probably the same or a little better than a regular dryer. Although it uses much less power, it runs longer.

You obviously missed the original thread. This is what I bought: http://www.compactappliance.com/LG-...987HW,default,pd.html?cgid=Appliances-Laundry Condensation dryers don't get vented. They also can be plugged into a normal outlet. However, they do take longer to dry.

Glad you weren't spooked by the humidity; it sounds like you're happy with the new machine.

I think you're actually drying them a bit more than I tend to. I dry to my machine's "cupboard-dry" setting, which then takes about 10-15 minutes to shed the last of the humidity after drying, but shortens the drying time by probably 30 minutes compared to the "extra fluffy" setting.

^The settings on mine are different than yours. Since it was my first time using it, I just used "normal." Next time, I'll try a shorter setting.

I've been thinking about one of these to install in my master bedroom closet (which backs up to a bathroom, so there can be water access. Did you have to add water access and drainage where there wasn't any before? How difficult was that? Is the machine quiet?

It's quieter than other washers and dryers that I've used. I had it installed as part of a kitchen renovation. It's not far from the sink, so the plumbing wasn't bad.

BTW, I bought it from Home Depot, not from the website that I linked to.
