How did the commission inform Curzon and Jadzia? It's not the symbiont's fault. It deserves to live regardless of any crimes a past host committed. Joran was the killer, not Dax.

Yes, I understand that...my post was in reference to the idea that reassociation was implemented so that a horrible event would be forgotten about, that people could not talk about it to others thereby continuing the knowledge. So my point was that I don't see how that would work when friendships still continued.A person's entire life doesnt revolve around their friendships but couples who spend their whole lives together are a diferent story.
the impression i got was that the taboo, and resulting laws, were about symbiotes restarting relationships with other symbiotes. interactions with non-hosts were not a problem, the worry was that two symbiotes would spend multiple lives seeking each other out, instead of experiencing new things. But continued/re-started friendships are completely allowed, so not sure how that logic tracks?
Again, my post was in specific refutation of the novelverse notion of reassociation taboos being to erase a cultural memory.the impression i got was that the taboo, and resulting laws, were about symbiotes restarting relationships with other symbiotes. interactions with non-hosts were not a problem, the worry was that two symbiotes would spend multiple lives seeking each other out, instead of experiencing new things.
I agree that it was more about two symbiotes getting back together instead of unjoined Trill or other races. (Which would also explain why it didn't seem to be trouble when Worf and Ezri were potentially going to be together on the first part of the final arc.the impression i got was that the taboo, and resulting laws, were about symbiotes restarting relationships with other symbiotes. interactions with non-hosts were not a problem, the worry was that two symbiotes would spend multiple lives seeking each other out, instead of experiencing new things.
and to be honest, i feel like the lie about the joining qualifications largely is a smoke screen to help hide the fact that trill society as we see it in the show seems vaguely oligarchic, existing mostly to support the symbiotes. an intellectual oligarchy. the candidate system exists to give the symbiotes the best hosts both mentally and physically.. they just use the claim that only a tiny number can join to avoid having to tell people that they're conducting what amounts to a highly discriminatory vaguely eugenic program for their oligarchs.
