Was the Chief ever back right?

After going thru what he did in Visionary then Hard Time, was he ever his old self (I know it died in Visionary) but his regular personality.
Frankly, I'd be ready for the men in white after going what he went thru.

I think he was back to "his old self" ... at least according to the show. It seems like the characters often go through a lot of tragedies then seem all rosy the next episode. Though this is not always the case (ex: Picard in BOBW and then Family).

Would have been good to see an episode where the Chief kills Keiko. Then his defense is not guilty by reason of insanity due to his experiences in Visionary and Hard Time. Combined with insanity due to Keiko constantly aggravating his condition by her never-ending bitchiness that even a perfectly normal human would not be able to endure.

He was basically the same guy. Outside of those episodes those events didn't affect him in any noticible way.

I take it you're not a Keiko fan...
