Was ET a product of a broken home?

Jayson

I was thinking of something from the movie "E.T" Why did he need to phone home? Wouldn't his parents notice he is missing when the ship took off and demand that the captain go back so they can get him? I know the government was after them in the beginning but it's not that hard to go find another remote clearing in the jungle to park at.

Why do I get the feeling that Et's mom and dad were proably drunk or high when the ship took off an proably spend most of their days like that. Dad proaby beats on the mom and that is why ET is so shy at the beginning hiding in the tool shed. Proably spend most of his days in his room to avoid his parents. Has no friends because he can't bring them back his quarters and he is afraid to ask his dad because it might cause his temper to go up and beat on him or his mom again.

I demand a CGI prequel to E.T.

In it, E.T. must become a famous rapper in order save his best friend from a drug dealer.

Then, all of our questions will be answered.

well, you're assuming E.T. was a child. There is zero evidence to this in the film that I am aware of. if anything, it's the reverse. E.T. was on a science survey conducting experiments with every one else, who are physically the same. E.T. has powerful magical properties and is able to build an intergalatic communication device out of spare parts......

he's likely not a child. He only seems innocent because he is naive to everything on earth.

Now, Speilberg has said the movie came partially from suffering through his parent's divorce, and there's a lot of that there

E.T. was actually a sadistic leader who choked the incompetent subordinate that left him stranded soon after he boarded the ship. He then nuked the California town. The "rainbow" at the end was the aliens form of nerve gas

...you are twisted and I love you.

E.T. decided to forgo the tracking implant offered by the nanny-state that runs his world for personal freedom and as such relied on his freethinking ingenuity to get himself out of the mess rather than relying on everyone else to get him out of it.

Once back home he wrote a successful bestseller titled "If I can escape from a primitive shithole planet with nothing but tin foil and a simple computing device what the fuck are you complaining about?"

LOL--I am so glad I opened this thread. I spit out my coffee I was laughing so hard. I think that ET was probably left for dead or something and had to let his family know he was still alive.

I think E.T. was a product of God, his only son sent to die for all mankind's sins.

E.T. actually came to Earth so he could become famous and sell Questionable items to childen......

Obviously E.T. was a transvestite gigolo.

And a screamer.

And the star of Dude, Where's My Mothership?.

ET was an adult and a botanist that was part of a scientific expedition to Earth. This is noted in the novel E.T: The Book of the Green Planet.

I still think he was a kid from a dysfunctional family. That makes the ending have more sense to me. The Et alien waiting for him in the doorway of the spaceship is actually a social worker who is going remove him from his home and put him in foster care.
