Warren the Ape/MTV Redemption?

No sooner than I was recently proclaiming here what a worthless and shitty channel MTV has been for years, I accidentally stumbled across this show (via my Comcast On Demand).

I am a huge fan of Greg the Bunny, and have had the DVD since it came out. I was devastated when that show was cancelled. I was only mildly entertained by the IFC incarnation a couple or so years back, when they did a few movie spoofs with the GTB cast.

This newest MTV show is great. Warren is rehabbing after blowing his career through sex, drug, and alcohol addiction. This is his "reality" show about his attempt at getting his career back on track. I absolutely cannot believe that MTV is airing something this good. I mean, this is right alongside Jersey Shore for shits sake. Can their audience really appreciate something like this??? I hope so, but highly doubt it. I would once again be crushed should this show fail and fade away too soon. It really is surprisingly clever and fresh for MTV, so I will really be shocked if it survives. It seems like it would be much more at home on Comedy Central or IFC. We'll see.

Although the second episode did have a great starring appearance by Greg (which was awesome), it's a shame that they cannot use characters like Tardy Turtle and Count Blah, as I think Fox (assholes) owns the rights to those characters. Still it looks they have some great guest stars coming up (including Seth Green from the original GTB) so I'm thinking they can continue with a great and fresh show without the entire compliment of those GTB characters. Also, as with the original GTB, I love how humans and puppets co-exist. I find that a source of never-ending entertainment.

One thing that bugs me though is how MTV advertises it as "uncut" and "uncensored", yet there are at least 10 or 15 bleeps in each of the first two episodes. That really doesn't seem very "uncensored" to me. Not surprising though. Regardless, it's forced me to un-delete MTV from my channel list. Yikes.

If you liked GTB, you owe it to yourself to check this show out.
