Once labeled as the most trusted man in America, Walter Cronkite has died at the age of 92.

It's almost ironic with him dying on th 40th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing ..He and the Space program were linked in a big way.

I got to know him over the years through The Kennedy Center Honors, he is what he appeared to be a great human being.

Here in the UK, I never knew of many of the US's great anchormen, but Walter Cronkite was undoubtedly the one that everyone who was anyone in TV news journalism mentioned with reverence.

Walter Cronkite's days as a newsman were before my time, but I have always thought of him as the voice of Spaceship Earth. Really a very influential person.

I spent a good part of the morning about a week ago watching his television reporting during the Kennedy assassination:

Cronkite only interrupts the first of these nine segments at about 10:30 - so unless you're interested in the 1963 plotlines of "Guiding Light" just skip ahead.

Something I didn't know is that television cameras used by the CBS news department at that time required about twenty minutes to warm up and were evidently not kept turned on - as a result, Cronkite and company could only go on "live" audio for quite a while.

He was like America's trusted uncle or grandpa. He will be missed.
