Wall Street Journal article on CBS All Access

There's a pretty interesting article from The Wall Street Journal about the direction CBS wants to take CBS All Access. It seems like they're shooting for a hybrid of Netflix and services like Sling TV.

The info presented isn't necessarily new, but I think it provides some good insight.

While I remain stoked about the idea of a new Star Trek show on the horizon and will certainly give it a chance, I also remain skeptical about CBS All Access. I'm not sure that even with CBS' efforts to 'beef up' All Access' offerings, if people will still subscribe. Personally, I feel that if they were to combine CBS All Access with Showtime's over-the-top streaming service (CBS owns Showtime) and form a true 'All Access', they would have a much greater shot. Or at least offer some of Showtime's older shows on CBS All Access just to add more meat to lineup. But I suppose that's another conversation.

Either way, I still can't wait to see what Star Trek: Discovery will be like!

*Note* The article isn't specifically about Star Trek: Discovery, but CBS All Access is where the show will air, so I felt this post belonged in this forum. But if I'm wrong, moderators, please accept my apology and feel free to move it wherever you see fit. :)

I was surprised to see they'll be streaming football games on CBSAA. I imagine that will add a lot of new subscribers -- and hopefully those people will take an interest in DSC if they're not already into Trek.

Yeah, the football games are a big deal. The ratings have been down, sure, but it's still very, very popular.

What's interesting to me is how varied the content is that they have been adding to the service. I guess it shouldn't surprise me, as they tend to cater to a broad audience on network TV as well. The first original content is scifi, a reality show, and a soap opera-esque drama. And now they will have NFL streaming? It's a good plan I think, to hook all of these different audiences, where they will likely discover other content on the service that they'll enjoy as well.
