Vulcan's Heart

I have just reread Vulcan's Heart by Sherman & Shwartz after a while. This book is quite good has intrigue and has a smooth great flow so wanted to see others opinion of this book. Loved Saavik in this book and Spock is perfect. Sherman/Shwartz out did themselves especially with Charvanek the Romulan commander and Ruanek also. Enough of my soapbox  what are your feelings about the book?

Vulcan's Heart is one of my favorite Trek novels of all time. In fact I think it may even be THE favorite. Dang, I want to see Charvanek again, I thought she was really cool in this novel. I liked the scenes with her and her crew on the Honor Blade (love the name of that ship! :techman: ) and it is also apparent she still has it for Spock, although obviously they don't do anything.

The Enterprise-C scenes were also a plus. I liked how they presented the battle of Narendra Three. This is a MUCH better exploration of the Ent-C's adventures than the dreadful Well of Souls.

And of course Ruanek was one of the coolest Romulans ever. I would have liked to see him onscreen!

Also those Romulan teenage hackers who had their own underground were really funny.

I haven't read them yet (all 5 of the the Vulcan's books are on my Nook wish list), but according to Memory Beta Charvanek and Ruanek are in the Vulcan's Soul books, and Ruanek was in Blood Sacrifice in Tales of the Dominion War.

I wasn't too impressed. The Spock/Saavik thing was nasty, Charvanek married her cousin (:ack:) and Spock, pon farr or no, seemed out of character to me.

I wasn't impressed by the Enterprise-C stuff. There was way too much "I hope we don't fall into that time vortex and end up in a TNG episode lolz!" fanwank, and the way it was done, I can't see them not reappearing leading to the dark future of "Yesterday's Enterprise". Tasha's cameo was utterly pointless.

I liked a few things about it (the atmosphere of unrest on Romulus was conveyed well), but it could have been much better, IMO.

I'll give you that, there was a part of me that couldn't picture Spock and Saavik at that point especially if you read some of the Saavik centric books before that (where the relationship was much different). I was big Spock/Charvanek shipper but have come to like S/S as the trekverse has progressed.

there has to be a reason Spock has relocated to Romulus and dedicated his time on his reunification mission that being Charvanek (one can dream cant they lol)

^ I don't think Spock has a thing for Charvanek. She obviously likes him, but he doesn't return it. He's only got eyes for Saavik.

That reminds me. If Romulans wore Burberry gear, would they be called Charvs? :guffaw:

I am reminded of Londo Mollari's wives. :vulcan:
