My local D&B got this game added to their VR two days ago. I went yesterday to try it out. It only cost me $6 per person/per ride. They told me it was a 6-minute long VR game, but it felt longer. In sum, it takes place in the JJ verse. You are alternately aboard the Enterprise or the Galileo shuttle in an asteroid belt where Klingons are hiding. You are shooting at D-7 Klingon battle cruisers based on the classic design, not the Star Trek: Discovery design, or the Star Trek Into Darkness design. The Klingon commander on the view screen, however, does look like the JJ Klingons from STID. I didn't really follow the contrived story, but the graphic and immersive quality was good. Never did a Star Trek VR before. Recommended
here is a short video and an article on VRFocus site: Star Trek: Dark Remnant at Dave & Buster's https://www.vrfocus.com/2019/04/head-down-to-dave-busters-to-boldly-play-star-trek-dark-remnant/ all action but what do you expect from D&B and an experience lasting under 10 minutes? Trek would be best at home in VR with character development and in an episodic story in 15-minute increments with new episodes every 5 days or weekly with season-long story arcs.
The story synopsis and video are pretty accurate. Being a Star Trek fan and never having experienced a VR Trek game made the opportunity to try this game out pretty irresistible, but yeah, kind of short and not much of an interactive experience other than shooting at the view-screen.
For Trek VR there was also Bridge Crew, which came out for the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Playstation VR a couple years ago. It started out with the a Kelvinverse and Prime Constitution Classes, and then eventually added the TNG Galaxy Class as DLC. I didn't realize they had VR games at Dave & Busters, I might have to go back to the one near me sometime. I went once, but it was a very odd experience because I ended up there mid-day on a Wednesday and was the only person there other than the staff.
Quick question for anyone who's played this game: Are there any indicators in the game as to when it is chronologically set in the Kelvin-verse timeline? Like, any hard stardates, references to the movies, etc? I'm assuming it's probably the "original" Abramsverse-Enterprise (i.e., set prior to the events of Star Trek Beyond), as opposed to the "new" Enterprise-A seen at the conclusion of the third Kelvin-movie, but is it? I've even watched the preview-clip available on StarTrek.com, but it isn't very revealing on this front. Was wanting to add this game to my personal timeline document, and not currently living near a Dave & Buster's, am sort of relying on other folks to help with this one.
More like a gameroom with a restaurant/bar, but yep. Chuck E. Cheese or ShowBiz Pizza Place for Grown Ups (who probably went to those when they were young). Which might also not mean anything to a non-US person, but I'm trying here.
