Voyager titles unavailable as ebooks?

bfollowell

Captain
I've been trying to compile a list of TrekLit titles that are/aren't available as ebooks. For no particular reason, I started with the Voyager titles. I came up with a list of seven that don't appear to be available in any ebook format. Is anyone aware of these ever having been offered or have they never been available?

Thanks to anyone that may be able to shed some light.

Thanks.

- Byron

VOY 01 - Caretaker
VOY 02 - The Escape
VOY 03 - Ragnarok
VOY 04 - Violations
VOY 08 - Cybersong
VOY 12 - Chrysalis
VOY 13 - The Black Shore

Battlestations!, Masks, Here There Be Dragons and the two Gemworld books are also unavailable (in the UK, at least...)

I have the first Gemworld book in my Nook wishlist, and it appeared to still be available when I was looking through the list yesterday.

So far, the only one any of you guys have mentioned that isn't available as an ebook is Assignment: Eternity. All the others you mentioned are available. Now, I'm not saying they're available in the format you want, from the reseller you want to purchase from or in your particular country, but they are all currently available as ebooks in general. They're all available as epubs from the Simon & Schuster website, if not others. The U.S. Amazon site has all but Masks available for the Kindle, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for the feedback though.

Borders & Kobo have both Gemworld eBooks as well as Here There Be Dragons.

I think you didn't read my message I posted before you posted the one I am now quoting.

Sony has Glass Empire in ePub. It is compatible with the nook. You just need Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) authorized and your nook authorized in ADE.

Go to Adobe and register there. Then download ADE and install it. Use the username & password you registered with and authorize ADE. Then when the authorized ADE running, plug your nook into the USB port. ADE should pop up a requester asking if you want to register your device (nook). Accept this and when that is done, you can then go and buy Glass Empire. But to buy it from Sony you will need to download Reader Library and use that to buy the eBook. But once you've bought it from Sony, the eBook you've downloaded will then be fully compatible with your nook.

Just because you have a nook, you do not have to buy all your ePub from B&N. You can buy ePub from anyone selling ePub except Apple.

Well, that's the problem, innit? I'd love to grab The Escape on Kindle, but I am not comfortable with hacking/fiddling around with files just to do that.

True, and while I certainly understand your concerns, that isn't exactly related to the question posed in the original post. I was merely looking for Voyager titles that weren't available in any ebook format, not which titles may not be available in your particular format, from your particular reseller or in your particular country. I was merely looking for info on Voyager titles that don't appear to have ever been released in any ebook format anywhere, period.

Glad to hear The Black Shore is available after all.

I believe it means The Black Shore isn't available, since bfollowell is the original poster, and he's just answering all the other posts about which book isn't available as an ebook. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct. As near as I can tell, The Black Shore isn't currently available in any format, for any reader, by any reseller in any country (I just wanted to clarify that for those that weren't certain what I meant :techman:)

Ah. Too bad.

^^^

I love it when my favorite authors pipe in.

I'd love to get your Assignment: Eternity on my Kindle, even if I had to convert from another format to get it but, as near as I can tell, it isn't currently available in ebook at all.

I wonder if it's because the files are in WordPerfect?

I recall Marco once saying that Pocket didn't have suitable-for-making-eBook files for a number of their older titles and that, as budgets allowed, and guided by public demand, those missing ST books would eventually have to be retyped, reproofed, reformatted, etc.

Not long after that, the slashing and burning commenced at Simon & Schuster, and the eBook division was diminished.

That's just still. There's no reason the Wordprefect files cannot be used to make the eBooks. In fact, Word would read them. Sure, thee could possibly be some formatting issues in the conversion, but nothing major and nothing that can't easily be fixed. If I was working at S&S, I'd be embarassed to think the eBook staff was that untrained and didn't know how to do it.

Okay, maybe that's not the problem. That was just speculation on my part. I've never actually discussed this with anyone at Pocket.
