Voyager Homecoming Book 1... Help!

Lucy of Nine

Commander
Red Shirt
I have been searching in vain online for a reasonably priced copy. I cant find any in Australia, and I am dying to read it! Any suggestions???

:)

OOh, I think I just found somewhere online in Australia that had it for $13... I have ordered it, so fingers crossed...

I would try either ebay or amazon.com. :D  I might order a copy myself and read it..I need to get back into reading again and this book sounds very fascinating!

I know what you mean. I couldn't find where I mislaid my copy for a while, started looking around at Amazon for one -- and was horrified at how much they're going for: "13 Used & new from $19.89." They list all the way up to $59!

I couldn't find a reasonably priced one online when I looked. People might have to haunt used paperback stores in the real world to find one. Good luck! I eventually found my copy again, thank goodness. That was a real incentive to hunt for it.

So, I tried reading this again; I lost steam on it twice before. But apparently the third time's the charm; because this time it seems pretty good, and I'm enjoying it.

First of all, I would like to state that it's a downright scandal that older Star Trek books are not available to buy from Simon&Schuster. Many of those books are classics which deserves a better fate than to be forgotten. Good, classic literature is always available, there are new-printed copies to get here and there. It should be the same for Trek books.

As for "Homecoming", the story is OK (except for the Borg plague which was downright ridiculous). Some of the worst errors and stupidities from the series are corrected. Unfortunately, the story and the overall concept for the "Voyager Relaunch" can't be compared with the masterpieces which were published when the series was aired, especially the books which covers seasons 1-3.

Anyway, I do find "Homecoming" and the "Voyager relaunch" decent reading.

My season 1-3 bookreviews can be found here: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Park/1964/bookreviews.html

I would like to offer my text files of "Homecoming" to fans who are unable to buy this book anymore. Because of dyslexia, I must scan books and convert them to text and then sound files. I listen to them on my iPod.

The plain text files are made on my iMac, using Readiris OCR software. There are conversion errors in the text, but it is readable. Anyone interested in receiving these in email, send me a PM here with your email address. I have it made into a zip file; it's 204 KB.

1. Lucy if you still haven't found it shop around. Ring different stores or ask if they can order it in. Dymocks and Borders are usually the best.

2. Why would you waste your money? Christie Golden is a shit author. Unfortunately she has managed to get her filthy hands on many of the Voyager novels and consistently ruins them with awful, contrived romances.

Libby having a fling with her co-worker in Harry's absence. AWFUL. A woman raped by a hologram. AWFUL. MORE Chakotay, Kim & Mary Sues. AWFUL.

I think that you are abit unfair to Christie Golden. "Marooned" and "The Murdered Sun" were excellent books.

And she is at least a much better writer than Braga and Fuller.

Ok, Bought it... read it. Very very very disappointed. Most the novel was about a Libby, super musician now super spy LOL... ridiculous ... what a sad, disappointing book... oh well, at least I read it...

Golden wrote some good novels when the show was airing. Unfortunately the relaunch did not work out too well with her in charge. At least for me.

The news from the book editor in Trek Literature was that the relaunch books were very good sellers.

Are you just saying that because she gave Kes more than two lines in the books?

It only gets worse. The doctor, Kaz, I think joins Chakotay's Voyager, as does his sister that was never mentioned in canon.

Golden is too much of a Mills and Boon novelist. She thinks all the men are gorgeous hunks and all the women are strong freedom fighters with a feminist angle. Trite.

Sheesh, no kidding. Rather sad actually. The DS9 books are so much better. Fully fleshed out believable characters based on the tv show, Golden never managed to capture the characters very well. It doesn't help that she isn't a very creative or skilful writer either.

If I'm not mistaken the plan is to go with another author when the VOY relaunch is picked up again.

That would be great. Golden made so many poor decisions. She virtually had a blank slate and she managed to ruin it, more so than even B & B.
