Voyager Drabbles

As someone started a Haiku thread, I thought I’d start a Drabble thread. The basic rule of drabble writing is you are only allowed exactly 100 words, no more and no less.

Here is an example using one of mine.

The Adoption

My new child lies on the biobed, unaware. The removal of the Borg implants has given her a nude appearance, as if she was unfinished.

How can I guide you, give you affection when my heart longs for another daughter?

It took all the strength I had to let my Kes go, when all I wanted, was to keep her with me. She’s left a sad empty place in me that no one can fill.

How can I learn to love you, Annika, when I yearn for Kes?

When will you cease to be an obligation and become a joy?

I have a few more, not many, and one Drabble and a half (150) words that some have requested brain bleach after reading.

Also, is drabble a real thing or did you just make it up?

Now why on earth would I want to make something like that up, you would have been better off to simply put the word in a search engine.

From the Wikipedia

Here like the link I put in the Haiku thread is Dakota’s Drabbles, as you can see she started out in 2000 and ended in 2003 which was about the time she stopped writing because of her illness.

And FYI, H and K are close enough together if you are fighting the blindness of cataracts (sometimes the screen is slightly off), I will be having surgery in the near future. I didn’t know that one had to be free of disabilities to post.

Also, what's the point of drabbles? So its a 100 word story and you have to capture as much as possible in those 100 words?
Sounds pretty interesting, maybe I'll try it.

I really liked the drabble you posted, Brit. My curiosity is piqued regarding the brain bleach one, but not quite enough to risk actually asking you to post it, if it's so horrifying. What is it about, though?

I could post it, because it's generally rated PG13 (unlike a lot of my stuff). There was a challenge between the mods on another forum to write Neelix drabbles. I drew on some deep trauma and wrote one. I could post it, but I won't be responsible for the images that might be conjured.

To Brit, nice 'drabble'...in particular the refs to a certain Ocampa. Good job. Emnabtond...nice taste in avatars! I'm no poet, but I do like to write...I may try my hand at it...

Ok, I figured if I’m stuck with these images, you all might as well be too. My 150 word Drabble and a half. By the way some people also write 200 word double drabbles.

Captain Janeway ran out of the turbolift, across the bridge, only pausing when the door slid shut behind her.

She tried to calm her breathing. She would shut her eyes except the image of feathery hair and orange spots would swim to the surface and she didn't want to see that again.

Her mind was filled with the sight of Neelix naked, surrounded by females of every shape and form, and apparently not keeping track of his holodeck time.

'Chakotay!' she thought, 'I forgot about Chakotay.' She had an appointment to meet him there.

But before she could muster energy to tap her combadge, the door to her ready room door slid open again and then just as swiftly closed leaving Chakotay leaning against the wall on the other side, his head down, hands on his knees.

"Kathryn, never ask to meet me in Holodeck Two again." He gasped, "Ever."

Great thread Brit! Here's my one and only drabble, almost exactly 100 words!! Beta'ed by Quadrantje who I don't think is on here but thanks anyway!

Kathryn couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt this nervous. Walking into the stately mansion she anxiously searched for her date. After much wondering, they were finally going to be able to see each other. What if she didn’t come up to scratch?

Suddenly she saw him behind an ornate vase and the air left her lungs. He was somehow familiar – like Odysseus returning to Penelope – yet magnificent beyond her wildest dreams. He appeared overwhelmed as if like the mythical Greek heroine she, too, did not disappoint.

Together, Kathryn and Chakotay searched for their seats, sans clothing, at Troi and Riker’s wedding
I love drabbles, there are some fab Voyager ones on fanfiction.net

Awesome, both of you. I laughed at the first one and the second one ... well, a little J/C is always good fun.

:guffaw:Funny how Neelix's "holo-activities remind her of her appointment with Chakotay!:guffaw: Great fun!
The 100 word limit is tough for the long winded like me!

Thanks for the kind thoughts Frazzled! I've been indulging in other people's work because I'm so swamped but I do want to give it a whack!

Great Bird of the Galaxy! I gave up on the five word only threads because they are super fun but tend to degenerate into threads about mostly sex and scat. The TNG forum has a thread where contribs all write an ongoing story but there is no word/length citeria (that I saw).

Why not do a drabble thread of an ongoing story? It would be more challenging and more fun (For the longwindy like me) than the five and seven word threads and would likely attract mostly the serious contributor - although a little fun NEVER killed anyone. Brit - you're OP - tell me what you think?
