Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea: Seaview 1 vs Seaview 2

Gotham Central

Does anyone know why the Seaview was massively redesigned between seasons 1 & 2? The modifications to the sets and model give the impression that the sub is actually much smaller than it was during season 1. The Seaview actually seems to lose a deck when they changed the number of windows from 8 to 4. (not to mention the fact that merging the nose with the control room seriously screwed up the ship's internal arangement).

I don't know that there's an "official" reason, but I'd guess it's partly to do with the addition of the Flying Sub, which they hangared under the nose. To make room for the docking bay on the model they had to move the floor on the glass nose set "up" or looking into the windows of the model you'd have just seen the box of the outside of the docking bay.
