While privately being friends with the heroes of the show, Gamble was mostly their enemy in court. By drama definition, the enemy of the hero is the villain. That's the short version.
I actually looked up a definition for anti-villain. Basically, the difference between the anti-hero and the anti-villain (according to the definition I found) was while the anti-hero does the right thing for the bad reason, the anti-villain does the bad thing for the right reason. Gamble often violated the legal rights of those she accused because she considered them guilty and her means therefore justified. That's the long version.
