I see Clue and Scrabble are tied. And Chess isn't nearly as popular as it should be. I tell you, if this were Norway ...

I'm surprised Chess didn't run away with it. I thought it would be a battle between Chess and Monopoly.

I suspect that some votes may be on the basis of preference for the game itself, and others may be on the basis of the artistry and aesthetic appeal of the specific game board. Chess/checkerboards can be pretty basic, but I've also seen some amazingly beautiful ones.

I've also seen a lot of interesting art projects and other items repurposed from game boards.

If macloudt is following this thread, I'd ask if she's ever done any game board-related craft projects. I've got quite a few patterns for needlepoint and cross-stitch and I've seen some for 3-D knitted and crocheted chess/checker playing pieces.

I have some cross stitch patterns for snakes and ladders, but have never gotten around to stitching them. I wanted to make at least one of them for my kids, but small children and stitching time do not combine well. On my (incredibly long) list of patterns I definitely want to stitch is a beautiful Celtic themed chess board from a needlepoint books I've had for years. I don't play chess but this pattern is begging to be stitched. I've not come across any 3-D knitted/crocheted playing pieces yet, but that's something a snoop around Ravelry can solve. :)

True. With Chess, the artistry is usually more about the pieces than the board.

And... we have a tie!

The co-winners are Showdown (Clue), and Saga (Scrabble).

Do we need a tiebreaker vote? Or would the co-winners like to work together on the next contest?

Congratulations to the winners, and thanks for the fun discussion as well, folks. I really enjoyed this contest. :)

Well done to the winners! It was a great contest bringing back lots of fun memories.

Check out Leisure Arts. I have a pattern book for 3D checker pieces that are cats vs. mice, with small rings to indicate when a piece has been "kinged."
