Vista help

This is small and utterly trivial, but I figured you guys would know the answer.

Yesterday (AKA The Day From Hell) my pc packed up, and now it's in an nice NHS queue awaiting an appointment to see a specialist. So I'm forced to rely entirely on my laptop, which is running vista.

Attached to the pc (normally) is a little portable hard drive on which I store silly pictures, thread bombs, LOLcats, bit of text etc for use on my blog. So I've attached it over here until the Repairman arrives. Now, normally, I find the most recent additions by using the XP 'sort by modified' under the 'view' menu. But vista doesn't offer that. It will let me search for images created on a certain date, but I can't work out how to view the contents of a folder just in date order instead of by name.

And I'm sure someone here will know the answer. Please help me through this small crisis by making the laptop that bit more user-friendly until I get my desktop back.
Thanks :)

Vista definitely does it because I use it to sort my trashbin when I want to "undelete" something.

I don't have it in front of me though. Can you use view--> detail

Then click on the date modified subject line which should sort them the way you want

I suggest you temporarily put all your Recycle Bin items into a folder and then use this tutorial to find what you're hunting for, Kathy. :)

Oh, and make sure you're searching only in that temporary folder.

Edit: I just noticed that modified was changed to date modified. Try right clicking where the columns are, and select 'Date modified.' If its not there, right click where the columns are, and select 'More...' From there, put a check mark next to date modified and you should be set!

Gawd! What a palaver! But thank you, yes, I have found what I needed. Seems vista will let you sort by 50 different varients, but you need a PhD to locate the sort system... All I want is to be able to bung the silly images I find in one folder, then select a recent one for the blog out of the last few entries. I can do that now... off to blog.

Thanks!!
