BSkyB recently bought Virgin Media TV's channels portfolio but haven't licensed the name Virgin so Virgin 1 is becoming the imaginatively titled Channel One

It's also apparently going to get a marketing boost and some new shows, among which is the V Remake.

From The Guardian

Channel One, which is available on Freeview, Virgin Media and Sky as a free-to-air service, will relaunch on Friday 3 September backed by a bolstered schedule and a marketing campaign.
The channel will be broadcasting the recent remake of 1980s alien invasion series V, first seen in the UK earlier this year on SyFy.
"Channel One will continue to embody the wit and warmth of Virgin1 and inherits the jam-packed schedule that has propelled the channel to the market-beating growth over the last few years," said Jonathan Webb, the managing director of Channel One's parent company, the Living TV Group, which was previously known as Virgin Media Television.

Please tell me they're not gonna fuck with the shows that are currently on V1. If they drop the Star Trek shows I'll be pissed.

I'm a little sad about this change, cause I really like Virgin1. The channel has a great attitude about it, especially towards its genre shows. Plus, I'll miss Red in his little Star Trek uniform.

I agree, Sky have already dropped Trek once, if they decide to do it again im gonna be pissed.

^ That's one of the things that concerns me. Sky have never had a good attitude towards Trek, and even when they aired it, it always seemed like they were just doing it cause they ownned the rights and felt obliged to get their money's worth.

I've always had the feeling that V1 are glad to have Trek as part of their schedule. They certainly give it enough airtime. Plus, they've already proved that they're willing to change stuff based on viewer feedback.

Hell, they dressed up their mascot in a trek uniform and used it as a special ident - that alone proves they cared more for Trek than sky, let alone their viewer specials.

I don't know for sure but I think they may have already lost some of the rights to DS9, because I believe CBS Action has started airing season 1.

Oh great, so even more Trek disappears onto a fucking Sky/Freesat only channel. Wonderful.

I don't suppose there's any reason they haven't still got the rights. Until recently E4, Sky 1, and Comedy Central were all showing Scrubs, and ITV2, E4 and Syfy were showing Smallville.

I can't say I recall ever seeing Smallville on ITV2. Although, Supernatural seems to be airing on multiple different channels at the moment, and The X Files is on both V1 and Bravo.

I don't know, maybe I'm just shouting before I'm hurt here, but I just have a bad feeling about the whole thing. Especially with Sky's track record with Star Trek. I've fallen in love with V1 as a channel over the last year or so, and I just don't want it to turn into another half-arsed freeview channel owned by Sky.

i liked the Virgin 1 thingies with the logo for T:TSCC AND they even got Summer to do an ident IN CHARACTER as Cameron. now THAT was fucking cool.

Will this change endanger Duncan Bannatyne's Seaside Rescue? It was on Virgin 1 the other night and had me in tears at how cheesily horribly good it was. More of this please.
