Just found this gem on youtube. A full Merv Griffin show featuring the classic Trek trifecta. The three were promoting Trek II as well as speaking at length about their carrers and musings about the state of Trek at that time.

That's an interesting find!!
I also remember the entire cast (along with Bibi Besch) doing the John Davidson show for the ST II movie also. That was another hilarious romp before they got to the end of the show!! I would love to see that one again someday.

There's something in the first part that I found very interesting. Griffin asks Shatner about the success of Star Trek and I think his answer contains a very true assertion: There really isn't any formula for why ST is so successful; there's no way to just copy all of its components and have a new hit. If you consider that in light of the new movie, J.J. Abrams doesn't have the brightest prospects to produce a success. Sometimes I think it was just this specific trio (Shatner, Nimoy & Kelley) that made TOS so special.

It's too bad they don't have the final segment of this program with Bibi Besch. I'd be interested to hear what she had to say.
