Viking: Battle for Asgard (PS3 & 360)

Somehow this game slipped below my radar until shortly before its release and although the reviews have been middling I've found it to be a pretty fantastic experience.

The open world structure works flawlessly and (so far) hasn't gotten at all stale. You free Viking camps from the clutches of the Orc-ish 'Legion' and then join your army for some large-scale clashes. You do this in some pretty impressive environments with a great draw distance, and with some superbly responsive and fluid controls and almost zero load times.

I've read pretty much every review of the game over the past few days and whilst I understand some of the criticisms, I'm not feeling the contempt 1UP in particular feel towards the title. At the very least it's worth a quick peak to make up your own mind. It's no God of War, but it stands up well on its own terms and brings some interesting new ideas to the table.

So has anyone bought or played it? What are your impressions?

ya know I was gonna buy this one Especially since Circuit City was giving a $10.00 gift card with it but for some reason I didn't.
Maybe I'll check it out.

My suite (there's six of us in here) wants to check this out, but we're currently dealing with Mass Effect (the Bring Down the Sky DLC), Army of Two, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, and Dark Sector. There's simply too many good games out at this time. We'll probably check it out mid-April, right before GTA 4 comes out.

Started playing it last night actually. I like it so far, but I can see where the criticisms are coming from if the game ends up being long and it starts getting repetitive. Assassin's Creed suffered from the same thing in a way: fun for a while, but not enough gameplay changes during the game to make it interesting for 10-20 hours.

We shall see! The graphics and sound are amazing though, there are so many characters on screen at one in such detail during the battles.
