What is your preferred viewing order for the first six Star Wars films? The poll covers the most popular responses I've seen. Myself, I prefer 4-5-1-2-3-6.

I've not actually tried episode order. I'm sure the younger generation might have done that. Though at this point it wouldn't matter for me....they are too engrained into my brain. Since birth perhaps.

4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

You simply have to watch the original films first. The prequels don't really make sense unless you do. But I also wouldn't end on Episode 3 because it's set up with Episode 4 ready to go. Plus, this method allows you to watch the better movies twice.

I generally go with episode order, although I tried release order once, just for the hell of it. It just seemed wrong though.

The problem is... if you must watch the prequels, then watching them all in order before the original trilogy absolutely ruins the revelation of Luke's parentage in ESB.

It's worth pointing out that the Machete Order is the augmented one, not vice versa. "4>5>1>2>3>6" came first, the Machete Order guy just has the incorrect opinion that AOTC is better than TPM and gave his order a catchy name.

4>5>1>2>3>6 is my preferred order. It really does work pretty neatly. Far better than chronological order, anyway.

Huh? I just reread his original blog, and Machete Order is clearly given as 4-5-2-3-6.

Complete opposite with me. I generally prefer release order, but I once tried episode order. Does not work at all.

First viewing should always be in release order.

After that it doesn't matter.

The order I first watched them in: 1, 4, 5, 6, 2, 3, 7. You must do as I do, otherwise I would feel like I am strange or something. It makes for a peculiar experience.

1: “Hm, that was genuinely bizarre”
4: “Wait, these are so good?”
5: “Haha, Luke, that's Yoda, you silly! My goodness, you're being such a tease, old puppet. Awesome!”
6: “OK, these Ewoks were tedious if cute, but after that ending... I now want to see how that kid becomes Darth Vader”
2: “I am actually seeing that opening in a cinema!!!!!!... Forget all else, what the hell did Yoda just do just now?”
3: “My classmates got all the plot points from this one right as well. Argh.”
7: “How is that even possible?”
