Videos in not-your-language, and the Universal Translator

Random thought: Watching a Star Trek fanfilm video in a language you don’t speak somehow makes it easier to believe in the theory that Starfleet crews are normally speaking their own languages, and the universal translator somehow just “overlays” Standard/English over it all, perhaps with some amazing futuretech application of sound-cancelling and audio-distortion techniques. (In my case it was from watching the below. I don’t speak German and have no idea what they’re saying, though it looks perfectly good.)
