Video Conversion Rates

I recently purchased some software to convert DVD (and other video content) to iPod/iPhone-compatible format and I wanted to know if anybody knows what the typical video bit rate is for most iTunes videos so that I can convert my videos to be of a similar quality? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!?

I'm no expert on this sort of thing. Looking at the few TV episodes I've bought from the iTunes store, they've a total bit rate of 1550-1600kbps. Hope that helps! I suppose for an iPod you can get away with less?
