V'Ger

Vastator

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
I was reading the stuff about V'Ger on Memory Beta and while interesting I kept on wondering what else would happen to V'Ger. I mean the last we saw it on screen, it turned into a being of energy. But what would be its next goal? I mean could V'Ger convieably create a race of machines in its image?

Who knows.

At one point during the production of "Voyager", they toyed with the idea of having the USS Voyager and Janeway meeting whatever V'ger had become. But Stephen Collins was busy with "Seventh Heaven", Persis Khambatta had died, and it was realized that with all the wonders out there to explore, why would V'ger come back to our galaxy so soon, just to meet its namesake?

Gene Roddenberry once joked that maybe the machine planet who repaired V'ger, and set it on the path to achieving consciousness, might have been the Borg Homeworld, and William Shatner then used this idea in one of his Shatnerverse novels.

Why would it want to? It ascended to a higher plane of existence. It had "learned all that was learnable" about our physical universe and was ready to explore new realms beyond it. It had also recognized the fundamental limits of its machine intelligence for the trap that they were, once it merged with Decker and Ilia. So I don't think V'ger would have any interest in creating a race of machines. Its next goal is exploring higher levels of existence.
