Some of you may know from my “I PASSED!” thread that Hubby and I went to Vegas.
Well, we’re big fans of “Top Chef,” “Top Chef Masters,” etc. We saw that Hubert Keller, who won Top Chef Masters, had a place called “Burger Bar” at the Mandalay Bay, so we decided to go. We got to town and stopped there first. I figured “ooh, great time to finally hit the bathroom,” so I head over there, look down the hallway and standing right there is Hubert Keller, on his cellphone. I scramble for a paper and pen, and motion a request for an autograph.
He was SO great!! He signed it to [Hubby’s name], since I said Hubby wouldn’t believe me. Later, as he came through the place, the manager(?) asked if all was okay, and I asked her if Mr. Keller would be willing to let us take his picture with me. He was so nice, standing there as the camera did it’s thing (you know how there’s always that momentary delay), and signed another autograph, this time the back of the restaurant’s business card.
We really liked, not only his professional performance on the show, but his demeanor and ability to be competitive yet remain friendly. It was nice to see that did not appear to be mere editing.
Regarding Vegas, I would recommend to anyone the “Hash House A Go Go”--not as crazy a place as it sounds. There’s 3 of them there, at the M Resort (great if you’re driving in/out on the 15), the Imperial Palace, and 6800 West Sahara. I had the 2 eggs, potatoes, and roasted banana-pecan french toast; Hubby had the 2 eggs, bacon, and banana pancake (about 12” diameter!) VERY good and, as prices go there, not bad--$13 each but will count as breakfast+lunch. We went to the M Resort one, as it was convenient for our drive home.
For the guys (and lesbians, too, I guess), there were TONS of hot-looking girls hitting the clubs at the Wynn/Encore. Hubby had a nice look around, but he’s very polite and never stares--says it’s not such a turn-on to realize the girls are young enough to be his own daughter, if he had one.
Anyway, great trip but nice to be home. There are some fantastic deals in Vegas right now, maybe limited days, but really great deals if the availability matches your schedule.
