After a year of rumors surrounding the release of singles and TV appearances, Van Halen have made an official announcement: The band will be hitting the road in 2012, with tickets for their first dates going on sale 10 January.

So a new album and tour, with Diamond Dave back in the drivers seat. This has potential to go really well, or really badly. Either way, it should be fun to watch!

It's a shame they can't get past their issues with Michael Anthony (and vice versa). That would be a REAL Van Halen reunion.

So will it rock? Will it suck? Will it be a clusterfuck of washed-up rockers?

Will you go see the tour?

And just in case you've forgotten why you loved them so many years ago, here's a little reminder:

David Lee Roth was a True Rock Star. He had Tiger Blood and Adonis DNA back before Charlie Sheen started shaving.

This will either be completely awesome, or will end badly.
Between Dave's ego and Eddie's weirdness, I'm betting on ending badly.

Exactly.

I'm hoping for the former, but expecting the latter.

It sure would be great to get an honest to goodness kick ass album from Van Halen. I wonder if they've got it in them. I guess we'll know soon enough.

I'm wanting this to be great but am not expecting greatness. Would love to be proved wrong. I do like the new album cover and Dave looks to be moving well in the promo trailer on the website. But the fact that it's not accompanied by new music, indeed, not even by a new live version of old songs makes me suspicious. I can understand keeping the new single under wraps until it gets its premiere, but why couldn't they let us know how good they sound playing the old stuff together? Do they sound too awful to be played?

As has been said, it's a shame that they couldn't have patched things up with Mike Anthony.

If things don't work out with Dave, I guess they could try to find an as yet unknown relative of Eddie to fill that role as well. Then it would truly be an all-Van Halen lineup....

I'm surprised something hasn't leaked by now.

I don't know what the motive would be, other than just keeping a lid on the new stuff until the big debut.

^ That I can understand [keeping a lid on the new stuff]. But why do we have them cavorting around while the soundtrack plays the original versions of Jump and Panama, songs almost 30 years old? Why not just have the new line-up play those songs, so we can judge what they sound like?

The tour will probably be a success, big money has a way of making people forget their differences. As far as I am concerned, I'm glad I saw them in '84 because I'm not interested in an Anthony-less VH. Wolfie can probably cover the bass playing but not the backing vocals, and those are crucial. Plus the way Anthony was pushed aside was pretty disgraceful. So best of luck to them, I couldn't care less.

The Dec.29 story HERE, has a release date for "the album". February 7 for N.A. & a single & video January 10.

Still, I'll believes it when I hears it.

As far as what you're saying J.T.B., I always had the same thought process when it came to KISS and how they treated Ace & Peter (and to a lesser extent, Journey), but their last album was the best in over 30 years, so it's hard to hold a grudge. Especially with so few good groups left from that era that are still making new music.

didnt think it would happen,it not really VH cause mike not there.

Anthony was certainly a big part of the vocal sound of Van Halen. His voice is very distinctive.

Still, it's Eddie and Diamond Dave back together. That's got to be worth something.

I don't know what the new stuff and tour is going to be like, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Tour dates are supposed to be announced Jan. 3.

Well, that's most cynical interpretation....

We'll see how it sounds. If it rocks, then all will be forgiven.

All this makes me think is that I'm glad I'm not the only one around here old enough to remember Van Halen at all.. :)

But yes.. I think it may well end rather badly indeed as well..
