van gogh's inspirations

I came across an interesting article about Van Gogh and his series of paintings about olive groves, which held a spiritual significance for him.

After watching that episode of Dr Who with van Gogh in it (and if you haven't seen it you really should), I wonder how much his illness influenced how he saw the world, that all those colours may have been things that flashed across his vision. Interesting guy (and again, watch that ep).
