USS MIRAGE

Star Trek;
USS Mirage

Set a hundred years after NEMESIS.

The crew of the mirage, 400 in all, is all holograms with the most advanced matrix powering their individual personalities.

The first several episodes center on the creation of ‘profiles’ for the command crew. Perhaps the image of the captain is a female, but she has a % of kirk and a % of Picard and a % of this and that person, maybe even 5% of Obama…who knows Any way, they create this so called ‘perfect’ crew of holograms, with engineered personalities. They hope there will not be any problems between the crew members because of the effort spent on these profiles….

But when the crew arrives in another galaxy, by use of an experimental subspace program (okay, its scifi what did you expect) inside their holographic ship that feeds of the solar energy of a star nearby, something goes wrong…the computer that governs their personalities goes a wry…now they must learn to think and live for themselves in ways they were never programmed to do….while making contact with new civilization. Some might know they are holograms, some might not. The key would be to write episodes that get the audience to care for holograms that are not actually real themselves…but who become more real the more episodes are aired….

Yeah..it needs some work…but I think the possibilities are there…

I'd be interested in reading something like that. Thats one of the reasons I liked Data, Vic, and the Doc. They all had to in some way deal with the fact that while they were sentiant, they were also artificial. As a tv show though... I'm not sure people would be able to sit through a year of Captain Proton of the 25th century. The reason the afore mentioned characters worked was because they had to interact with humanity. A buch of holograms running around contemplating their programing might not have the same effect.

I'd stay within 20 years after "Nemesis". A new upgraded Intrepid-Class / Prometheus-Class hybrid design. The "Mirage" encounters a solar phenomena & before its human / biological crew can react, they're soaked in lethal RAD's of radiation. Some escape into stasis & others die. The ECH (Emergency Command Hologram) takes over & attempts to get back to Idran & through the wormhole to DS9.

Not bad..though I agree with the above poster that the writers would have to find ways to make the characters interesting if there isn't any involvement with real characters..

Now..having said that.. I think they can. The episode where the Voyager doctor creates that family program, and then Paris mucks it up and makes it more real? Dude...i cried. I cried when the girl died...and she wasn't real.

So, I think good writing could overcome that hurdle...but on a consistant basis?

don't know..

But again, that was a human character altering the docs program so he could see what a real family is like.

True...it did have a 'human' involved. But if they had written it to where the program had just malfunctioned would I have still be as affected as I was...yep. Because the story came from the Drama the Doc had to go through....

Intriguing.

Fascinating:vulcan:

I would love to see one of our fanfic friends take this story and run with it. I have never been able to write for hologram characters...and this would be a whole crew of them...but I think the right writer could take this idea and really make it great....

Why not do it yourself as this was your baby in the first place, unless you want co-author credit. "Story by Robert Scorpio And --------------"

Are Professor Moriarty & wife USS Mirage crewmembers or passengers?

I hate to think they were destroyed at the end of Generations.
