I just saw this video on Facebook (click picture for link) of the USS Jefferies (named after Matt Jefferies) designed by Pierre M Drolet who has worked on Star Trek (Voyager) (Enterprise) (Nemesis), Battlestar Galactica, and Firefly (Serenity). The concept of the video is what if in a few years from now we figure out a way to make deep space travel possible. What if the first interstellar spacecraft to be built is commissioned by the US Navy and its design is inspired by a science fiction TV show from the sixties. What would it look like?

The reason I posted this here is I thought what a fantastic concept for a fan film. A film not set in the Star Trek Universe, but in our own near future where the ship designs have been inspired by the TV programme Star Trek.
I am not certain as to whether such a film would be affected by the Star Trek fan film guidelines, as technically it is not actually Star Trek. Would it be transformative enough?
Such a project would likely be a crowd funding success as Trek fans would want to support it. The pilot could even have cameos from Trek actors (playing themselves) who are invited to go on the maiden voyage or to watch the launch (sounds familiar)!
So then, who is going to make this happen?
