USS Biddeford model

Anyone have thoughts on the TOS-style Constitution class ship model that was hanging in Marcus' office in a deleted STID scene? Speculation is that the designs for the TOS style that we knew existed prior to the Kelvin being destroyed. Maybe Marcus had a hand in the design, and the model is simply a model for nostalgic purposes on his part. Or maybe it was meant to be a hint at some kind of future ties to the Prime universe planned? (Which, even if true, could be a moot point since the writing team turned over since STID).

Memory Alpha has the basics summarized but I haven't seen any of the folks involved in the film ever talk about it, other than the registry number is probably someone's birthday.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, I didn't see any previous threads anywhere.

It's been a while, but there has been some discussion in these threads:

TOS Constitution Class Model In Marcus's Office!? (Deleted Scene)

In one of the deleted scenes from STID, there is a TOS ship!

Also comes up in the middle of this thread.

So far, I don't think there's been any conclusive explanation of the significance of the ship name or registry, but you never know - this could be the thread where it's at last discovered.

As I understand it, the Kelvin was originally supposed to be the TOS Enterprise, but I'm not sure if this is apocryphal or not. There is little know about the model in the deleted scene. On one hand, it suggests that TOS designs or their predecessors did exist in this continuity -- which they should, since certainly the evolution from 2233 didn't abruptly change everything. On the other, it could have just been some easter egg put in by production that ended up on the cutting room floor -- er, in /dev/null.

My personal take on it is that, because we saw it "on screen" (i..e the production crew spent money on it and it went beyond something in the script), it is canon and somewhere out there in the nuTrek universe are TOS-style Constitutions (that were over time replaced with the amped up nu-Connie design seen in the films).

In fact, if you believe the current speculation, there will be one appearing in ST Beyond.

IIRC, it is indeed apocryphal.

The story was that the TOS Enterprise, under Robert April's command, was to be destroyed in ST09 and that Bad Robot (or perhaps Paramount) forbade them from doing it, so the Kelvin (and Captain Robau) was substituted in its place. I would have LOVED to see that, but unfortunately I don't think it was ever true.

As for the Biddeford, I think that's apocryphal as well, if only for the fact that there's another ship with that name that's actually in the film (it's one of the ships with "half" a saucer section", docked at Starbase 1). Linky Although it's entirely possible that this one was created to replace the TOS Connie with that name.

Speaking of which, I found this on Wikipedia, might be the source of the name.

My understanding is that the the Kelvin was originally to be the USS Iowa, to tie into Kirk statement in TVH of being from "Iowa."
