USB Question

My brother has a a CD-Rom drive that is seperate and hooked up to the computer through USB. He only has two USB ports. Sometimes when I'm there I need to charge my iPod. He insists by ejecting his drive (safely, through the computer) I mess it up, yet it runs fine. Who is right here?

Though it wouldn't kill the computer to do it your way, it's still better to eject it through the OS.

How's about buying a small USB hub for one of the USB ports? They can cost as little as $10 (even less sometimes), and give you three more ports.

Seems a much simpler solution.
