USA Network, the network of top female spy Annie Walker from Covert Affairs, is developing a drama series about Kate Warne, U.S’ first female detective who also worked as a spy for the Union government during the Civil War. The project, which will be written/co-executive produced by Adam Sussman and produced by Sony Pictures TV, is described as stylized with a contemporary feel. In 1856, Warne became America’s first female detective when she joined the famous Pinkerton Detective Agency. Along with Allan Pinkerton, Warne did work for the Union government. She was part of the Pinkerton team that uncovered a plot to assassinate President-elect Abraham Lincoln, events that will be at the center of the pilot script.

Sounds like it could be interesting and I'm always game for a show set during the Civil War. I wonder how close to history it'll adhere. Probably not too much I'd guess.

This sounds like the perfect show for me, it's got Civil war era, female lead, detectives...so awesome! I look forward to it. Of course, I haven't liked any of USA's other shows, so maybe they will find a way to make this one boring for me as well.

I'm always interested in historical fiction, but it's weird to think of USA doing a historical war story, which seems very far afield from their light-comic-quirky approach. I hope they're not planning to make a light-comic-quirky Civil War drama! :wtf: It doesn't have to be Breaking Bad, but it does need to be a bit more serious than their usual approach.

Well, if it's set in 1856, it's well before the Civil War. If they're going for "stylized and contemporary," it may resemble the original Wild Wild West (which was set after the Civil War, but was a lighthearted adventure show).

Will her partner be a dumb as a post guy? And will there be "sexual tension" between them?

How can it be set in 1856 if the pilot episode is about a plot to assassinate "President-elect Abraham Lincoln" in the pilot?

Sounds to me like the line about 1856 is talking about the historical character on which the show is based, not that the show is set beginning in that year.

Oops, you're right. It looks like it's set in 1861, just as tensions are ramping up toward war. I should pay closer attention. :rommie:
