upfront season: how'd they do?

I think they did pretty well this year, certainly better than last.

Most anticipated new show, broadcast: Person of Interest just nudges Alcatraz. I think CBS may have found the new 24.

Most anticipated new show, cable: Since I haven't had the chance to see a clip of American Horror Story, I'll go for Hell on Wheels.

Biggest disappointment:
Locke & Key not picked up to series.

Biggest bullet dodged: Wonder Woman, probably. But I'd like to compare the pilot to Poe if we ever get the chance.

Best trailers: Pan Am, hands down. Runners-up, Hell on Wheels, Alcatraz, and Person of Interest.

Worst trailer: The River (derivative, hokey, the actors - ehhh) and all the trailers for sitcoms (although maybe they're just being honest? :D)

EW's postmortem.

LA Times analysis.

Thomas Dekker: Man-Witch. :D

More from LA Times.

CW probably had the hottest cast though at their up front party. SMG. Rachel Bilson. Nina Dobrev. Anna Lynn McCord, Jamie King! I will say that "Person of Interest" looks good. Jonah Nolan and JJ seems like a win. Jim Cavziel and Micheal Emmerson!

Most disappointing show pickup: Actors typically jump for joy whenever their shows get a pickup, but we can’t help but think Sarah Michelle Gellar may be pouting now that CBS passed on her new drama The Ringer, and the fifth-place network — which used to be the former home of Buffy the Vampire Slayer — nabbed it up, instead.

She is an executive producer so I doubt she is upset about this...I posted an interview with her in another thread and she seems excited about this...plus this didn't fit with CBS anyway.

What I love about Emerson and Caveziel's characters is that each seems somewhat mentally disturbed in a different way from the other, but that can easily feed off the other's psychosis into an ever-increasing spiral of mayhem.

I hope Abrams can overcome CBS's tendency to bland everything down and remember that "two nuts + unlimited funds + vigilante justice = happy ending every time" is not a realistic formula.

Variety issues grades (while noting that the impending Rapture may render pilot season moot - aw cmon God! at least wait till midseason. :D) They seem to agree this was a decent season and everyone gets passing grades.

Variety on the creative risks of this season.
