I went into this film essentially blind, knowing only that it starred George Clooney, some girl who grew up near me and involved air travel in some way.

My expectations were so low I thought it would either suck so hard I would want to kill the people who dragged me to it or it would bore me to death and I'd take a $7.00 nap .. or maybe it would do both simultaneously.

Instead, it turned out to be one of the best, if not the best movie I've seen all year. Top-notch acting, script, story. I want to marry Vera Farmiga, have a beer with George Clooney and date Anna Kendrick. Awesome, awesome movie. I can't remember the last time a movie gave me hope while simultaneously making me feel like shit.

Feel free to spoiler here, but I'd advise against spoilering yourself. You're going to want to watch the movie fresh.

A+

When Sam Elliot showed up he looked so absurd I was sure it was some kind of dream sequence.

Overall, I really liked it. Great performances all around, and it really avoids the conventional way of ending a story. At end, Clooney's exactly where he was before, except he's been deprived of his philosophy/illusions/what-have-you but has no way of making use of this information. Arguably he was better off not knowing.

I'd probably have to see the movie again, but I'm not sure how well the movie builds up to the reveal with Alex's character. As she boards the plane home from Wisconsin there's a brief facial expression that made we wonder about her, but before that a lot of her conversations seemed to support the impression that Clooney got.

I'd give it a 3/5 for entertainment value, mostly on the strength of the two leads. It fares better in the philosophy department. Up in the Air will spark conversations and/or leave you examining some of your life choices.

Very good movie. Clooney great as always. Felt sorry for his character when he found out about the woman's other life. I thought for a second they would get together and become more than a casual relationship. But I liked the ending they went with. Yes, Clooney's character still working the same job as before. But he's changed on a personal level with his mind heavy with the realization that his philosophy is crap and his job isn't as guru-like as he made it sound like. At least, he did some good for his sister and her husband and for the woman who quit her job after a fired employee killed herself.

I enjoyed this movie (thought it was a great flick). My girlfriend thought it was depressing and unoriginal. *shrugs*

I loved this movie. Very interesting take on life and the choices we make, and the stuff with the firing was well done.

Just got back from seeing it. Great story. I loved that they didn't go the conventional route with the relationship. And George Clooney was an interesting casting choice given that he's very much like his character. Also, I read that the brief clips we saw of people being fired were real people who got fired and got to use their experiences for the movie. I'm glad I knew that going in.
