Unmade holiday specials

Laura Cynthia Chambers

Vice Admiral
Admiral
"Catspaw" is apparently the only so-called "holiday special" episode of Trek, and that for Halloween. We've had some mentions of Christmas, but no real Christmases have been shown (Picard's fantasy Christmas in the Nexus doesn't count.

If TOS/TAS had done a Christmas-themed episode, I imagine it might have been along the lines of discovering Santa was a benevolent alien/Human who lived a long time ago (a la Flint) and his elves were aliens. He would need help if someone kidnapped the elves as slave labor or some such thing.

For Valentine's, I suppose, any love-themed episode will do. New Years doesn't mean much when you're not on Earth, or if you deal with races who all have different new years days.

There's a pretty amusing youtube clip of the Enterprise crew singing "Make It So" (Let It Snow)

Well, we'll always have Captain Picard Day, though this episode had some really dark implications about Starfleet ethics and coverups. Just how I like my holiday specials, thank you!

Nah they'd do an allegory about the meaning of Christmas. Probably a heavy handed one. ;)

Dagger of the Mind featured the Enterprise Christmas Party, which always felt a little out of place.

The Star Trek Christmas Special
.....

Starring Bill Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols and Bea Arthur

Captain Kirk rushes to evade the Klingons and get Mr. Spock back to Vulcan for Sehlat Life Day. A great hour and a half, full of great comedy, a musical number from Nichelle and a cartoon featuring a first appearance by Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan.

I wonder what they'd decide the star of Bethlehem was...
I always liked the idea that the Star of Bethlehem was a super-nova. But most of the History Channel programs I've watched about it are of the opinion it was a conjunction of planets in the constellation of Aries the Ram, which was the symbol for Judea at that time period. If you think about it, that makes sense because it was something that the Magi recognized since they were astronomers/astrologers. But other people didn't automatically recognize it. If I recall Herod had to ask the Magi about it.

DS9 would be the perfect platform for Scrooge. Zek could be Scrooge and it would happen during the time that Zek met Quark's mother. The ghosts would be the wormhole aliens. Zek would be making the Bajorans work on Christmas eve or whatever the Bajoran equivalent is.

Dr. Lense and Bashir discuss having gone to a New Year's party (although I don't remember it being called New Year's Eve) in DS9, Explorers. Not a themed ep, but it does show New Year's lives on somehow, and it's something the cool kids do (I think Bashir counts as a cool kid).

A nieve juvenile Q is told there's no such person as Santa Claus and has a destructive tantrum that threatens earth. It's the job of the Enterprise to convince Q he's real which involves replicating and transporting presents to all homes before Christmas morning

Or maybe the Hogfather, sorry Santa, being weakened and/or incapacitated and Q having to take over for the season. Cue sardonic "Ho ho ho" opportunities
