Uniforms?

I was just curious as to what kind of uniforms we should expect to see the new crew to wear in Star Trek? If this is a prequel then I am assuming something akin to what we saw in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" unless JJ wants to go in an entirely new direction? I'd be fine with something new but am expecting the old TOS uniforms.

Me too--better tailored and of higher quality material, but largely unchanged. More Spider-Man than Batman, if you see what I mean.

These colors?

Red, gold and blue for me. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they did something completely different. The fanboy in me wants to see it all exactly as it was in TOS, but I have a feeling that will keep people away in droves, so a little different is okay with me. Just nothing wacky like the ST: Online uniforms.

Yeah, red, gold and blue w/black collars... never liked the earlier "fat turtleneck" unis...

Jumpsuits.

Only kidding.

I'd expect something closer to The Cage uniforms than the WNMHGB uniforms. It suits the time frame better. Not that there's very much difference, but the jackets would be nice to see again.

People who are expecting Cage or WNBHGB uniforms are deluding themselves. They're going to go for what's iconic, not temporally canonic... that means the blue :bolian: red  and gold  uniforms.

Not sure if bright primary colors will play well on the silver screen. The more muted colors of the Cage/WNMHGB might look better.

No... people who aren't on the production staff who talk with absolute certainly might be deluding themselves, but... ;)

My vote, as I have repeatedly annoyed people with, is for a new 'practical' design based on the uniforms of the pilots with the expedition jackets turned into sleeker duty jackets for the bridge officers and the like with a heavier version for planet-side missions.

Something along these lines:

i agree with Venardhi on this one.

the uniform he showed looks very nice and would work well imo

One thing i am sure i don't want smilier to over used TWOK uniforms nor rejected pilot uniforms used only in couple of TOS episodes.
They scold look at using quality materials as in Superman Returns, Spider-man and Fantastic 4.

But it's grey, they'd all be grey AGGGHHHH!!!

I actually think it will be some what in between this and the OS design.

If Abrams wanted to be really pedantic, he'd have the command color come across as the shade of green it really was according to information in a 1992 interview of Bill Theiss:

“It was one of those film stock things;” Theiss states, “it photographed one way - burnt orange or a gold. But in reality was another; the command shirts were definitely green.” As further proof, look at the wrap-around tunics as well as the dress uniform tunics of Kirk’s – all green. They came off as their true colors because they were constructed of different materials than the standard duty command shirts.
This same film problem can be seen in other areas of the old show as well. The miniature of the Enterprise alternately looked light gray, pale blue and sometimes faint green. The carpet on the bridge, which was actually a dark gray, often appeared tan or brown. So, for the devoted fan trying to faithfully recreate his little corner of Trekdom for an upcoming convention costume contest, what does he do? Adhere to what actually was, the intended look, the look the cast and crew all saw? Or go with what we all saw on our screens each episode?

Does he stay true to what was really there, or to what our lying eyes saw?

Trek after TOS caved in to the lie and went with gold. Abrams has a chance to make his mark, here, and set the sorry record straight. Command green, I say. Command green. Let's be accurate here. Canon, and all that. :vulcan: :)
