In this thread, I'd like us to introduce to the group authors we feel have nee overlooked, underrated, or just plain forgotten.

He didn't produce a large volume of work, but what did give us was pretty good stuff. I would compare Piper favorably along with, say, Robert Heinlein. He worte the same sort of SF - straightforward stories often delaing with strong self-relaint characters. Very entertaining stuff. Ace Books reprinted much of his work in the early 80's, but you really don't see or hear a lot about him these days - certainly not a mainstay of the bookstore shelves like folks like Asimov or Herbert or Heinlein are.
