Unauthorized Star Trek eBooks

There is a link at the very bottom which asks if you think this listing violates copyright. When you click it, it shows you Amazon's policy on copyright, patents and so on. What you would need to do, according to that page, is have the copyright holder file a complain against the person who infringed on their IP.

So CBS would have to go here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/reports/infringement
And fill it out.

Other than that, I'm not sure what you can do.

I like the bullshit reviews too. ...Not to mention that one of the covers uses a photo of The Time Machine from the 2002 Dreamworks film.

I left a review, and not a fake one either. I read a sample of the story, and it is just awful fanfiction. There are short, incomplete sentences everywhere, it's written like someone who hasn't really mastered advanced English, and the dialogue is just hilariously bad. I wouldn't pay for that book if it was authorized.

That said, yeah, the reviews are funny, too. Several of them make the same "science friction" mistake over and over.

It's possibly stolen fanfic being sold by some ass-hat too. The sample you posted is from How The World Was Made by "Cyndi H" in 2013. Maybe it's Cyndi trying to sell it, but more likely the person who released it just goes around getting fics from the net and palms them off under fake names for a few bucks. If you click on the reviewers, their other reviews will lead you to numerous shitty fanfics from different franchises for sale under different author names.

I've said for a long time that Amazon should not allow self-published eBooks without being checked out first. They don't and we end up with things like this.

Since this is like the third thread on this, maybe it would be worth it to have a stickied thread with information on how to report it? Though there are a lot of stickied threads already.

I think we've found an alias of "Frank Smith"--also probably an alias--someone who begs readers not to share or pirate his/her e-books out of respect for an author's hard work.

Also, infringement of BBC IP can be reported through the following method:

[QUOTEIf you come across an infringement of BBC copyright that you would like to report please e-mail antipiracy@bbc.com with as much information as possible. Thank you for taking the trouble to report this, we appreciate the vigilance of our fans.[/QUOTE]

I agree that we need a sticky.

Oh right, forgot to alert her: @trampledamage, do you think it'd be possible to have a "what to do if you find a fake ebook" sticky?
Sure.

Could I ask someone else to create it? Once it's done I'll sticky it, but it would be helpful to me if someone else collated all the current information into one post - thanks!

(Also agree on the amount of stickies we already have, I think XenForo must have a more spaced display, because now the sticky threads take up the whole screen. I'll have a look at those and see what can be done)
