Ladies and Gentlemen, I've come to eat a little bit of crow tonight, because I now realize I've been horribly wrong about something. As some of you might know, I've been steadfastly of the opinion that no matter what changes we've been seeing there was no way this movie could be a reboot.

Then I saw the new Enterprise...

HOLY CRAP! There's no friggin' way this is a canon story!

Now, having said that, are you also wondering if I've changed my mind about seeing it, being a staunch supporter of reboots? Nah...it's still being directed by the guy who has never created a single thing I found entertaining. I'm just saying that right now, I can honestly say to all the anti-rebooters I now feel your pain. It's not what I'd want in trek either.

Stay the course. Boycott now!!!

Before this gets clanged because of a nearly identical thread already in motion, why does the fact that the Enterprise looks different make it a reboot? Are the precepts of Star Trek really so immutable that the important things (the characters and their backstories) didn't exist because the ship looks different?

Please tell me you have more imagination than that.

The evidence has been around. How else do you explain single-nacelle ships, four digit registries starting with zero, or Uhura drinking kanar?

This movie is about as much canon Trek as I am a sexy person.

Drink the kanar... either it will start to make sense or you will pass out. James Cawley is almost as anal-retentive in his canon as you, but he likes it. 'Nuff said.

I have a question for you sir, and please don't interpret it as snark because that's not how it's intended: What initially attracted you to Star Trek?

Um, okay, you've made the point you wanted to make, and we've already got a reboot discussion going on. Why don't I just close this and invite you to join the other one in progress? :)
